Whats your favourite Range??

Postby Marky » Tue 21 Oct, 2008 10:48 am

So many out there.. was wondering if many people had their own favourites of if the usual suspects (arthurs, franklins, etc) would dominate!

After my recent (successful) trip to Lake Rhona (in snow) I have been favouring the DENISONS due mainly to the dramatic and majestic way they look!

Western Arthurs. Hands Down.
Every 100 metres brings a new view.

Even when you pick up the South Coast track map, they stand out like
WOW  Look at all those bumps and lakes and stuff...

Actually there is one problem with the WAs, nearly every day you can see that road. Every time I look at it I think that I am not that far from civilisation.

Very true! Sadly though this is becoming a problem everywhere.
Having said that how many of the places I have been to, would I have been able to get at as easily without the roads.

That can be said for your home, too.
One peak that is great to stand on and get away from it all is Frenchmans Cap.
You can see a track leading from North Col down towards the Irenabyss, you can see a trig point, you can see Tahune Hut (if you want to go that close to the edge), and you can see Lake Burbury - they are the only manmade objects my eye can detect from this summit. And may it stay that way.
I think I can recall, possibly, a lighthouse somewhere on the western horizon too, a white dot so insignificant that it doesn't count. Or I might be thinking of another summit.

But, for the Western Arthurs, it is a truly magnificent formation - and I've only been as far as Cygnus and a bit.
