Where to find info on off-track/remote bushwalks?

I will be in Australia in a week (coming from the west coast of Canada) on a year long work visa and I am amassing information on bushwalking routes, but finding it a bit of a challenge. I will be in Queensland, Northern Territory and the north of Western Australia for the winter and would like to find some challenging off-track multi day routes, but info is scarce. I have some info on the Daintree (http://www.amazon.com/Bushwalking-Around-Cairns-North-Queensland-ebook/dp/B00OLKKREY) and the scenic rim (http://www.southee.com/), but besides that I have just found well marked managed trails, not much else.

Preferably some stuff that requires topo map and compass work, but even lesser known trails would be nice. Any websites, guidebooks, personal recommendations?

for the escarpment walks in Kakadu NP...for when your up in the Northern Territory.

You've already found the southee website... which has excerpts from 'The Bushpeoples Guide to Bushwalking in Southeast Qld'.

The Main Range Traverse, from Spicers Peak to Teviot Falls is supposed to be the beez neez if your in/ around Brisbane.
Especially now the weather is cooling down.

Thanks weeds, but I have friends I'm staying with in Brisbane for a few days before heading out. If you're interested in off track stuff the two links on my original post seemed to contain such (if you missed them.)

Kakadu looks amazing, ofuros, but I've heard it requires a very lengthy and convoluted permit application process which probably won't jive with my flexible travel style. Litchfield may be the way to go for that area, pending what the terrain looks like first hand maybe I can forge my own way in the southern section.

Think the secrets of the scenic rim has much that the southee website doesn't?

I've looked at the Take a Walk Books a little (the contents that is) and will prob photo copy some pages from the brisbane library when I get there. Do they include remote off track stuff? Got the impression they were mainly major trails, though nonetheless good info.

Bumping this.

In Queensland now, just went into carnarvon gorge. Amazing in there, though lots of people. Managed to find my own spot 30 mins or so past the end of the official trail, where I was alone for 4 days or so. Made me crave those out of the way, secret wilderness spots; so please do tell if you know a hike or location. Can even be a simple overnight spot, just something off the main trails.

Oh, also did part of the main range traverse. Headed in from the south, making it one day in to my steamer, but couldn't find any water so had to turn back.
