Bushwalk Australia

I imagine that many of us read hiking blogs from around the globe for inspiration, envy and enjoyment. Some I find through serendipity and other through recommendations. I would love to read which blogs others recommend and why.

I will start with two, each written by youngish (around 30) hikers who combine superb writing skills with expert photography; https://carrotquinn.com - Carrot isn't afraid to discuss the dark and the light times of hiking, she has done some very long distance trails in the USA, her writing is superb. Alex Roddie http://www.alexroddie.com is a UK based writer and editor, his hikes are in the U.K. and Europe. Both these writers/hikers put a huge amount of effort into their writing - if you enjoy their work and want to support them you can do so through links on their sites.

Happy reading, I look forward to other suggestions, particularly suggestions which include your reasons for enjoying your recommendation.

i hope greg isnt having too much trouble and is able to get hiking fiasco back up, havent seen anything on his site since feb. he's a comedic genius, great photographer as well..

Anyone who can work quotes from Tolkein, H2G2 & the classics into trip reports is on a winner. In my book, at least.

All good blogs in their own right, but for what its worth +1 for Mr Fiasco..always a great read...especially for us more well rounded gentlemen.

And as for the Gammon's I can't wait to get back, probably the best arid walking in Oz I would think.

Yup I did read them, really entertaining, and one of the only source of info on walks out there, so thanks.

And yeah I cannot agree more. We came by push-bike and sadly we didn't pack enough food so we could only stay a few days, but it's on my list of places to come back to and explore more

I'm also thinking of bringing mountaineering/rock climbing equipment like ropes, harness etc. as that Bunyip chasm walk seemed really nice, but we almost died of fear by climbing the tree trunk at the beginning and then had to backtrack at the waterfall cliff face, this was wet and slippery as hell, there is no way I would have climbed that without a proper rock climbing equipment, and even then it would still probably be dangerous. I will remember all my life the notes of the book (from Adrian Heard I think, found at the Leigh Creek school library) saying this was supposed to be quite easy but the next one was hard... Well I don't want to see the hard one!

It's fine when dry.

I am moving to Germany for work next year, has anyone got any favourite blogs for walking in Europe? I plan to up my fitness and experience a little to train up for an attempt at the Haute Route Pyrenees.

Kevin, I have read lots of your posts. The Gammons/Vulkathunha are also a big attraction for me, and I found your report and photographs re Mt John Roberts, et cetera very useful.
