Yes.... I recall reading this years ago, seeds produced for garden growing are NOT suitable for growing edible sprouts.

Here's a little creativity to inspire some isolation projects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HrIVWziJ0Y

Delving a little deeper, I just checked out the sprouting seed range I used, and according to their website...

'Our sprouts are microbiologically tested, sprouting seeds that are Non GMO and chemical free. No risk to you or the environment'

But doesn't say, comes from organically grown plants...

Another warm, blue sky...and strangely silent autumn day.
Summer warmth seems to have extended further into Autumn this year or maybe it's just my imagination.
Anyway, in the mood for some cutting & sewing...Madtree style hammocks for the Tropics with few mods that suit me.

Trangia alcohol stove + simmer ring, lightweight mesh heat diffuser(doubles as a pot scourer)
baking paper to stop it sticking & a foil lid to help set the top.

So the lightweight metal mesh diffuser - its just a piece of ordinary insect mesh? And it spreads the heat evenly across the bottom of the pan so you don't get a hot spot? Seems like a great idea, I hate the way Trangia burners always create a burnt spot in the middle of the cooking pot, leaving burnt food to be scraped off later, I must give this mesh idea a try.

Fine stainless steel woven cloth/fabric...you can scrunch it like a piece of soft material. Spreads the hotspot. Lightweight. Used in combo with simmer ring & baking sheet, it's not foolproof but it helps.

Ebay ss filtration filter woven screen sheet.

Excellent! That could also be used as a coarse water filter - 2 jobs in one product.
I would think the 300 mesh would be too fine and block too much heat, the 10 may be the pick.
(I assume the 10/100/300 is the number of bits of wire running over a length of 1 cm)

Been thinking about making a tent and looking at weights vs costs. Using Ripstopbytheroll for material with prices and weights.

Cuben fiber 0.5 oz/yd is very attractive for weight .. but the price! I get a weight benefit per dollar (USD!) of 0.3 grams lost per $... far too many $ for the weight lost. No I am not releasing my thoughts on the design, once I have a prototype then if it functions ... yes.

Your local supermarket usually has them either in the cake mix section or beside the packets of dried milk in another aisle.

Thanks, I've tried to find them in Coles and Woolies, but no luck. I've checked out the cake mix section, might have to try dried milk. Online, it says not stocked in any local Woolies stores.

Their websites are saying unavailable locally for me too...the shortage may be because of the current crisis we're going through.

Some Aussie whole egg powder manufacturers websites are saying sold out or unavailable too.

I imagine there's some happy 'preppers' sitting piles of flour, bog roll, sugar and powdered eggs thinking themselves set for the coronapocalypse. :)

Egg powder has been scarce all year, even early online orders were refunded :( 'Farm Pride' is usually near the exotic flours (and hen's teeth).

http://austegg.com.au/shop/allproducts/ ... gg-powder/ : even a kg is a lot, but this looks worth a try (ffr)

If you're wanting scrambled eggs, I don't mind the Backcountry product: https://www.snowys.com.au/easicook-scra ... ookies=yes

a little goes a loooooong way.

Inspired by Ofuros I'm currently attempting to dehydrate some cauli/chickpea soup. Thankfully it's now past the stinky stage!

Plain Jane Double layer hammock project...shield your eyes from the Robin Egg Blue colour, it was on special at time of purchase.

IMG_20200420_112116_921_copy_1305x979.jpg

1oz 20denier HyperD ripstop nylon - cool, soft & silky smooth next to the skin. Nice. :) Little bit of stretch/give in double layer form.
Easy to cut with a hot knife, triple stitched seams, dyneema webbing & rope combo for suspension. Double sided tape from Spotlight to hold the material in place before sewing. Need to watch my seam width for next time. Noseeum fly net, couple of small storage pockets & some Omni tape to hold my dry sack pillow in place for future incarnations.

Single layer good for around 90kg
Double layer good for roughly 120kg

Experimenting continues...next a Single layer in Airwave hybrid ripstop, maybe with dyneema webbing suspension throughout this time.

Our climbing Dragonfruit...extra sweet, juicy & fragrant this year. Three trays in the dehydrator slowly drying, will use on my overnight yogurt when we eventually return to our National Parks. Powder will be experimented with...
A glassful in the morning will keep you regular, the red juice stains your fingers & any clothes it splatters.

Update...with so much natural sugar it's better dried as a fruit leather, so will slice instead of blitzing next time. Dry on baking paper or a light brush of oil...it's sticky stuff. Chewy, sweet deep red snack.

My project was the long overdue shortening of my oversized Thermarest Neo Air. At 2100 mm long it was too big, too heavy and never really fitted into either of my hiking tents without riding up at one end. Grrr.
Took the plunge yesterday and cut a chunk off and made a hash of it. So I took a wee bit more and it is currently being tested with about 90 kgs of weight on it and is holding up well. Haven't weighed it yet but expect to lose around 150 to 200 gms.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos and despite being a tad more difficult than they make out it wasn't too challenging. I did accidently cut through the bottom layer whilst trimming out the inner insulation and simply cut off another 50mm more than I planned and started again.

The top and bottom material can be heat bonded/welded together after removing the inner "stuff" . So to answer you query Neil- I used the iron on high. As per my comment on the 2nd picture it seems to work better if you apply the iron to the top side as it started to melt the bottom (oops) You should be able to see a straight edge ( piece of wood) clamped to the ironing board so as to not damage the inner material - I have no idea what would happen if I did, so I didn't push my luck!!

I still want to re weld a small bit that only has a about 5mm held together where I fold the mat into 3 when I put it back into its stuffsack. It was due to these 2 bent spots that my ironing was somewhat irregular (ie/ piz poor) It's currently still fully blown up downstairs with half the crap from the house on it.

I'll give it a run over the next day or 2 to see if I have any issues.

Oh yes I can see the ironing jig now. I wasn't quite getting my head around it before.
I wonder if a piece of baking paper between the iron and the material would help avoid sticking?

Neil,

I dunno about the baking paper, but it seems alright as is on the top side although I did use a tea towel on the bottom after the initial stuff up. seems to work, but didn't really need it on the top side. Can't hurt!. BTW- its still up!

Take 2...Single layer hammock.
1.8oz 40denier Airwave HyperD hybrid ripstop in Electric Lime - 2surfaces, one slightly furry the other less so. Just the right amount of stretch, firm but gives alittle.

Happy with the dimensions, seam/hem width, dyneema webbing(changed to a thinner dyneema webbing), dyneema rope splicing & my sewing is getting straighter... :P

Single layer good for just under 160kg.
260g with suspension.

To do...pattern for pockets/storage for headlamp/small waterbottle. Sew some Omni tape to dry bag & add some netting & a zip.
