Horizontal scars on eucalyptus bark

Postby Carbonze » Wed 20 Dec, 2023 5:23 pm

Has there been resolution of this mystery? I've just visited Tassie and was struck by the prevalence of horizontal scars in bark. Insects seem unlikely - why horizontal! Maybe it's lenticel-based

There are wood boring insects that leave scars like this. Longhorn beetles are one. One type is responsible for ringbarking snowgums. Google will give you plenty of information.

Also have a review of this thread https://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 8&start=30
Page one seems to be off the mark but it gets better. Could be a marsupial getting sap also.
