I am flying over from Vic for a walk to FC in mid November with my daughter who has a car in Tassie at that time. I've heard it can be a bit of a problem leaving a car in the FC carpark, especially when it will have a fair bit of gear in it. I looked at the bus timetable from L.StClair and that's an option to be dropped there, but not picked up. Is there a drop off or taxi/tour type of option that could be negotiated from L.StClair? Is hitching a possibility (though I expect we will be a pretty muddy pair when we arrive back at the carpark)?
My daughter is only about 5'1''. Will she need to carry a snorkel for the deeper muddy sections, or are chest high fishing waders sufficient?

As for the carpark, certainly wouldn't risk leaving valuables in the car.

lol.. well people go on and on about the mud on the lodden but seriously its not the worst that Tassie has to offer.
Infact one year I went through there and it had completely dried out and formed a hard crust on the surface.
Got through to Vera without going any deeper than my ankle. No such luck for you though going in November.

Re the car park I've been there 3 times now. I've certainly heard the stories and seen some photos on the internet.
But never actually spoken to anyone that has had a problem. I've also heard similar stories about the car parks at the arm river and walls of jerusalem.
I've parked there many times without issue as well.
I think pretty much anywhere you're going to leave you car unattended for a few days while walking is at risk, obviously the further away from the riff raff the better.
Just avoid leaving valuables visible in the car.. you'd be pretty unlucky to have a problem.. but it does happen.

Not that I would leave any valuables in my Vehicle on view any where, when was the last time recorded of incidence of vandalism at Fenchmans Car Park ?? I am aware that the scrotes who did it at the Walls /Arm river car parks are being paid by us in Risden however we do need to be aware and leave an empty vessel that does not ring bells:wink:

Opportunistic... I had a car broken into at the Frenchmans carpark, but that was back in the early 1990's. They stole a nice spotlight, but left over $10 in change in the ashtray.
It was a company car so I didn't care that much.

The Walls pinheads are in Risdon at the moment are they? Nice to know.

I've heard the same. Someone from Deloraine or Mole Creek? area was well known to be going down there on a regular basis and breaking into cars.

True. But when the crime was going to happen anyway, it makes no difference to the "free lunch" factor whether it was in my car or a company car or a hire car. Except that apart from a lost spotlight and a short-lived pissed off feeling, it didn't cost me personally (any more than the percentage increase overall to all insurance policies due to yet another claim, which I assume you refer to).

Also remembered the Company Car Free everything however who really pays for it

As for the cars, they were all fine.

I think they are back Corvus- I think I saw them hanging around Sheffield the other day, though I'm only guessing.

yes made it out fine. The water was quite high wasn't it, so we were glad of those tapes around the landslip area where it was just one big river! It actually meant we got less muddy I think as we skirted round the edges of the deep sections lower down rather than plough through the middle like we did on the way in. Only had a couple of mid thigh moments.
