Burnt areas between Westons Lake and Whiteleys Hut

Completed a walk up the Higgs Track and out the Little Fisher Track last weekend. On the walk from Westons Lake to Ironstone Mountain we noticed many (dozens) patches of burnt areas of mainly scoparia clumps. These appeared to be very recently burnt - less than a week. Someone either has a real 'set' on scoparia or has been seeking to make the walking pad much more discernible.

Does anyone know what might be going on here?

Thats bizzarre. Who'd go to THAT much trouble, not like the walking up there needs to be made any easier!! Could it be lightning strikes??

We thought that after the first one, but there are many patches and all in the general area of the walking pad - someone has intentionally set the clumps on fire. The question we had is for what purpose?

Looks a lot like simple senseless pyromania, sadly. "Hey let's see if this stuff burns... Yeah that was fun. Hey look here's some more..."

To highlight their apparently abundant stupidity???
Just imagine the damage if that got away from them....must have been burning pretty strongly to do that damage!

Still, I can understand someone being driven close to insanity by Scoparia, and trying to get revenge. And at least it didn't spread, so they were careful.

No, sorry, there is no excusing this sort of thing. Remember people you are visitors only. We should all be aiming to have a minimal impact on the areas where we walk, and this is nothing like minimal. It is a senseless thing for any person to do.
