MYOG Down Jacket

Sun 17 May, 2020 12:36 pm

Hi Guys,
I've had a lot of free time lately so I thought I could sew a down jacket for use when hiking. I have very little sewing experience so I wasn't expecting to make something that would look good, just something functional that I could use to keep warm in Sydney winters when hiking.

The outer fabric is mainly made from a Argon 90, inner fabric and sleeves from Ion 15 denier, and the stuffing is 850fp down. The cuffs are made from scrap synthetic as I made the sleeves to short and ran out of down. Weight is exactly 250g, and the fill weight is 90g. All the material is from Tier gear.

The hood and waist has adjustable toggles to minimize drafts.

Welcome to suggestions for improvement.

-Alfie

I like it! Two tone as well!
We may have a manufacturer in Oz!
Giddee up.

Do you mind if I ask did you chose the Argon 90 with the high CFM (around 40ish), so that you might wear it, or hope to, whilst active?
When do you envision using it? Would be a great static piece.
What about a little crew neck vest next while you are in the groove with a little half zip. :D
Well done again.

I will be mainly using this as a jacket to keep warm when at camp, and not so much when hiking as I tend to get quite warm.

In regard to the CFM im quite new to the MYOG and kind of just picked what I thought would work well, so im not sure what the exact number is.
Thanks for the interest.

G'day Alfie,
the CFM is reference to the movement of air/wind through the fabric- it is the '40' I quoted. Yours is quite high-good for breathability.

How have you found it so far? How about an update on the range you find it comfortable in when static?
Cheers G

Also just noticed that hardly anyone has commented on your excellent efforts.
Ozzies must be hard to impress I suppose.
