Extra Large windshirt

Postby Moondog55 » Sat 25 Jun, 2022 2:57 pm

I thought that the new downie was a little fragile and not as warm as I now need for snow camping so Cecile has quickly knocked me up a wind resistant protective layer to wear over the top.
Does the job of making it warmer and will protect the fragile hoodie fabric from wear and tear.
Cheap taslan fabric about 55 to 60 GSM
Pattern was the Kwiksew 2321 a 1980s pattern for plain fabric. No longer available but can be found S/H on eBay I guess

Nice work Cecile! Nice drawstring on the hood too.

Not a difficult pattern overall, but the Taslan is a bit slippery - not for beginners!. Next time he requested a much longer zipper, which means most likely cutting it without a yoke and putting a centre front seam in. I added in a wind flap behind the zipper, but it was too floppy so next time it has to be interfaced.

Taslan's a much under appreciated fabric/textile for bushwalking I reckon.

After using it for a good while this white season I'd do it again but with a kangaroo pocket and I think it really needs largish gussets in the underarm if making the standard pattern.
I wore it a lot, now it needs washing and a Nikwax treatment.
