A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.

Forum rules

Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Long time DCF user here.

I wouldn’t touch that tent with a 10ft carbon pole. The 0.34 oz/yd2 won’t last long in my opinion. It is ludicrously fragile, far more than the more common 0.52 oz.

There are far better options out there.

I'm re-reading the specs of the tent and the dyneema and I can't seem to find what you are referring to.

They don’t seem to list it on the website.

I can see a lot of unhappy tent buyers lining up.

Andrew Skurka's review is up.

As expected the tent failed during use (actually during setup). On its 23rd night of camping on soft ground and light winds.
He suspects had the weather been windy the failure would have been much earlier.

Yeah, I saw that too.

I would steer clear until they use a heavier weight of DCF. It pretty much tore along the edge of the reinforced patch at the top of the door.
