Cheap Ultralight Water Bottles

Not sure what water bottles you guys use, but I have just discovered a new lighter bottle and thought I might share.
Until now I've always used PET soft drink bottles @ ~ 40g for 1.5L.
While I like the look of platypus flexible bottles they are expensive considering they are more fragile and break easier.
Back to the point, I found Aqua Essence 1.5L bottles that only weigh 22g. (Lighter even than platypus bottles)
While one bottle may not make much difference, I find that on some trips if I do not camp near a water source I want to have 4L of water at my camp (for tea/coffee/breakfast/washing up).

Sorry about this image, I can take another when I get home if you want.
I bought 10 at a sale for 10$ but retail price is like most other water bottles.
If you want to buy them they have a store location map on their website:
http://www.aquaessence.com.au/I am not affiliated with them in any way.

Nice -- I tend to use the PET bottles. But there are a couple of brands that seem to use thinner/lighter plastic then others.
These ones you have shown would be handy 'extra' bottles, esp around camp or when you have extra water to carry.
These look like they would be annoying to drink from??
Thanks for sharing.
Matt

To be honest. I prefer drinking from them, you can just squeeze and drink as fast as you can.
Far more problematic is filling them up. You will end up wasting water.
You could probably cut off another 3 grams by cutting off excess plastic.

Never underestimate the humble wine cask bladder for water storage. Never weighed one empty but with a capacity of 5l I doubt you'll beat them in the weight for carried volume stakes.

Filling them up is just too much hassle. I will be sticking with my PET bottles for now

These could be really interesting if the top is adaptable for a tube with a bite valve.

I use the blue snowy mountain spring water bottles. Less than 2 bucks for a 1l bottle thats bpa free, has a really good flip top lid (thats pink sorry guys... but they support breast cancer/pink ribbon which is a great cause) and they last for ages. I usually have a bladder in my hydration sleeve (1.5 or 2l) then 2 of these bottles (one each in side pocket) for longer trips. Day walks I just use these bottles. Love them. Even use them for the gym.
Its the bottle on the back right

For many years I've used a four litre wine cask in a light nylon case with a hanging strap, with a spare cask in case the main one breaks. This is about 75 gram for the main cask and 25 gram for the spare. The weights are above those cited above, but the capacity is greater. The nylon cask was made from spare parts.

Sounds incredible, do you have a photo?

And of course Sea to Summit make their Packtaps which are also just wine casks inside cordura cases and are pretty light for the volume.

Just to let you all know that this topic has been split so as to keep the discussion on topic. All BPA and associated replies have been moved into an EXISTING TOPIC in the Equipment forum.
A couple of replies were copied and edited as they were relevant to both.

Sorry for the delay. Somehow I missed your posts. I have a picture of the water bladder bottle but it appears that as it is on my computer and not on a public site it is not possible to upload it. I would be most pleased to be proved wrong on this, and to receive advice regarding uploading pics taken on trips. I have manufacturing instructions somewhere, and should be able to find them if they are of use to anyone.

There is a "Sticky" topic, I think it is in the Gallery forum, on how to upload / post photos. Can't link as not on a computer at the moment.

T
asdam, thanks. The soft contrast is a bit subtle for me, which is why I usually post in black. It's the sub-editor in me. Here's a pic of the water bottle.

I like it, now I just have to make one for myself.

There are a few subtle things that should and should not be done when making the above case. Do you want manufacturing instructions?
