So with a little bit of research across the board we've come up with what we believe to be the ten lightest bits of outdoors gear around.

Most seems reasonable, though I disagree about the choice of pack and shelter.

Example 35l daypack at 506g is heavier than the Arc Blast 45l which weighs 454g
Example tent is 880g
Zpacks duplex net is 547g
MLD duomid w net inner is 635g

yeah i guess they didnt take a serious look at cottage industries... was it a case of looking at their advertisers gear?

Of course they were looking at advertisers or potential advertisers. They mention the Fire Maple FMS-116T and compare it to a rebranded Fire Maple FMS-300T as though they don't know the FIre Maple original exists.
Walking poles at 135 grams per pole - only 12% (with strap) to 35% heavier (no strap) than Ruta Locura poles.

Well at least most of the users of this forum know that most of the genuinely lightest gear is from cottage manufacturers that the editors of these magazines have probably never heard of.

well the article is headed "Ten of the lightest" not "The ten lightest", its not that wide of the mark and for those who dont shop online and buy overseas and dont want to pay the shipping for products from overseas, they've got a better chance of coming across the mainstream brands in their local shop...
