Interesting gear thread - please do share your finds

Over at Australian Cycling Forums there is a thread in the touring equipment area where members share their interesting gear finds which may interest bicycle tourists and bikepackers. Generally items that wouldn't warrant a thread of their own or there is not a thread on that item type, e.g., tent thread etc.

Anyway I thought such a thread might be of interest here; if it works great, if it dies as quick as I started it that is cool too :)

To kick things off here are a couple of items I learnt about from reading John Abela's blog, HikeLighter.com. John has a couple of interesting recent posts which highlight gear which might be of interest. The first is the interesting but expensive Yak wool clothing from the Hong Kong company, Kora. Apparently it is much lighter and warmer than wool clothing such as that from Icebreaker. Anyone tried it?

More details on Kora's offerings at their website.

The other interesting piece of gear which may appeal to some is the Suluk 46 Tulimak Backpacking Table. John discusses it in this thread or you can check it out the Suluk 46 website.

Cheers
Andrew

Bit of an old one, but I found this Cirriform tent design by Yama Mountain Gear really interesting and wondered why more companies don't do the same.

They offer a hybrid silnylon/cuben fiber tent, where the floor is made from the more abrasion-resistant silnylon and the fly is made from the more waterproof and lighter cuben fiber. Pretty cool idea! It means you get the abrasion resistance where it is really needed and you lose the cold/wet sag of silnylon on the fly, for a consistently taught pitch. And you save weight!

Crazy expensive though.

I hope this is the sort of interesting gear you had in mind!

I dunno. $145 for a body like that is pretty good value.
