Some new metho cuppa kit.

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Common words
Base pack backpacking the mass of the backpack and the gear inside - not including consumables such as food, water and fuel
light backpacking base weight less than 9.1kg
ultralight backpacking base weight less than 4.5kg
super-ultralight backpacking base weight less than 2.3kg
extreme-ultralight backpacking base weight less than 1.4kg

Just purchased these two items.
https://speedsterstoves.co.uk/20ml-spil ... urner.html
https://speedsterstoves.co.uk/utralight ... -mugs.html
For some that might like a cuppa or whatever for very little space/weight/cost gain.

Fascinating!

I see they even have an ultralight stand, just 4g:

https://speedsterstoves.co.uk/utralight ... -mugs.html

Just measured my Vargo titanium burner, with folding legs and stand -- weighs 30g.

Cool.
Is it true a dash of water in the metho stops soot? Anyone tested that...

Oh well.

I put a roll of foil in the shopping basket and it blew the shipping cost out from 4 quid to 17 quid! Needless to say I ditched it quick smart

Ha ha, ahem. yes.

But you did give a total weight of 15g. It is actually 8g plus 4g, which is 12g. Without fuel.

Despite your link, I thought that you were looking at this stand:

https://speedsterstoves.co.uk/pot/kettle-stand.html

...which is 7g. So 8g + 7g is 15g.

Sorry missed this. Yes. I did test it several times. It does make a bit of a difference. It still appears, just takes longer to build up.

I have this exact setup, used it on a few trips and many day hikes. People think im crazy when i take this as my main cook kit, i love it though, the key is having an effective wind shield (took me a little while to dial in the right fit) but its a fun little setup for sure. Took forever to get here from UK.

Yeah when you have a good screen it works all right. I'm using app 8mls of metho for a good sized 250 odd ml cuppa or using app 12 mls of metho for app 400mls of water. A good, almost weightless set (If you exclude the metho) up for boiling water for a cuppa soup, a cuppa, hot choccy even though I must have made more than a hundred cuppas since I linked it with --the BRS3000.

I use a mini measuring cup (like for kids cough syrup) for exact metho pouring that weighs nothing, i keep meals very simple (usualy cous cons and olive oil/sriracha) so use about 250ml of boiling water from this setup for my meals and then for coffee in the morning, People with jetboils think i've lost the plot

@Lamont
Thanks for making me aware of the Speedster Stoves website. I couldn't make up my mind whether to buy the 20ml or 30ml burner, so bought both, with matching stands.

I also bought the 100ml meths bottle, but height 138mm, it is too long to fit in my titanium pot, vertically or horizontally. Could carry it elsewhere, but like the aesthetics of having all the cooking/kitchen gear inside the pot. Also it will catch any leaking meths. And, the bottle won't get squeezed.

I looked around on Aliexpress, and found that same bottle, looked some more and found one that is also a soft dispenser bottle, various sizes including 100ml, and a bit shorter at 108mm:

Also here:

They arrived today. Opening is 9mm, so a funnel is needed to fill them. I bought this one:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001498583005.html

Chose Aliexpress Standard Shipping, bottles and funnels arrived within two weeks.

Actually, I can fit two or three of these bottles in the pot, so no need to carry a separate larger bottle on a multi-day hike.

Thought I would post this info, in case anyone else would like a shorter bottle that fits inside their cooking pot!

I tested it, filled it and left the bottle on its side for sometime, a good seal, no leaking. Even squeezed it a bit, no leaking.

Thanks Barry.
That's great. You're well sorted now.
It's pretty remarkable when an entire metho kit including the cup weighs less than an empty 100 gm gas can and fits in a 450 mls cup!
Boil on and may your cuppa be always hot.
