3 seasons sleeping bag/liner for beach hike

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

3 seasons sleeping bag/liner for beach hike

Postby gbagua » Wed 15 Mar, 2023 9:14 am

My current down bag is -7 C/900g. and overkill for this time of the year.

Any recommendations for something no more than -/~500g.

I was also thinking of the S2S thermolight reactor range. Is it enough for tent use?

Hiking destination: NSW north coast.

Cheers :)

The reactor will just take the slightest edge off the cool. If you think it'll be warm enough that taking an everyday bed sheet would do the job then the reactor will work but otherwise I'd keep looking.

The S2S Reactor is really more designed as a temperature booster insert for a quilt or sleeping bag. They work quite well in that regard, not so sure how they'd work on their own though.

I have a +5 Deg C Enlightened Equipment 850fp down quilt and for around 475gm it is surprisingly flexible over the warmer months - warmer than you'd expect but not overbearingly so. Good for sea level or low altitude nights. On the colder nights at altitude an extra worn layer makes up the difference to keep warm. I've actually paired it with the Reactor liner to keep warm at altitude in a Tassie September. Much more enjoyable than my -10 deg C winter bag!

Thanks! Where can I buy the EE 5 deg. bag? I need it urgently. Might have to place an express order.

I always use the reactor liner in summer. Never used the sleeping bag in QLD.

Order direct online... https://enlightenedequipment.com/revela ... ing-quilt/
Just make sure to get one that's in stock, it was a couple of years ago but I remember shipping was very fast. Unfortunately the local maker couldn't fulfill our order in time for a big trip due to down supply issues.

This season I updated my quilts to this - https://liteway.equipment/quilts/sleeper-quilt-apex. Very happy 2.5 season bag, works really well as poncho... And a 3+ season katabatic gear flex down quilt, which I think is much better designed and more flexible than EE - https://katabaticgear.com/collections/flex-quilts
Former over the later is a great 4-season solution for me.
