The idea of a ski holiday in Queenstown has been floated with another family. Thinking of not gliding the whole trip just on the white powdery stuff, any suggestions for local tramping options (with kids) in late June? Apart from the cold, I assume many of the tracks have poor access with snow and other natural conditions. But is it? At the same time, not looking for long walks but easy family friendly strolls with worthwhile scenery.

snow could be doing anything then, the bottom of the routeburn track is ok up as far as the flats hut, any furhter is subject to volume of snow and avalanche risk.
wander up the rees valley. moonlight track is another.
you might need your own car to get there then though.
the deer park gives good views around the area.
queenstown hill walkway.

Thanks Wayno for the pointers. I'll look into each and see what eventuates. Tourism sites tend not to include these gems you suggested.

Thanks. We will have a car but not sure how icy roads will affect our access with a basic rental vehicle.

shouldnt be that bad to get to those places, possibly in the early morning if it's a particularly cold day

rob roy glacier walk is worth it if youre over wanaka way or even wandering up the matukituki east or west. some easy walks around the lake shore, Roy's peak gives classic views but its a big climb and may be under snow..

Excellent! Will keep all the options open, even if it's for another future visit.
