This is my initial impressions of the Big Sky Chinook 2P 4 season tent.
Options purchased:
Outer shell: light weight SuprSil fabric, apple red
Interior: breathable fabric
3rd pole: 4 season DAC NSL 9mm aluminium pole
Sack: silnylon tubular compression sack
No stakes/pegs
No guy lines
2P X-cord

Total weight on my scales 1.79 kg

On initial unpacking and setup I noticed a small bit of fabric was caught in the zip sent this was from the supplier- I got it out but it left a small hole near the edge. I contacted Bob at Big Sky about this & he offered to replace the fly but I opted for some stuff to fix it as it is very minor & I didn't want the hassle of US postage etc.
Other than that all the stitching and everything looks great

The tent came with inner attached and it can be set up like this. You can either use the 3rd pole or optional x-cord to save some weight in 3 season conditions. Leaving the 3rd pole behind saves 206g on my scales

You can also setup the tent without the inner creating a large tarp- the inner is unhooked with simple clips

The fly has 2 external vents
The inner is all fabric. At the top on either side are 2 mesh vents which can be zipped open
The inner has 4 mesh pockets and a high bathtub design
The inner is quick and easy to clip in or out and uses red/black colour coded clips as does the x-cords

Plenty of space for 2- was too lazy to blow up neoairs so here are 2 CCF mats. The foot of the tent is slightly narrow than the head
The tent has 2 vestibules and 2 entries/exits. Plenty of room for a pack boots

Overall I am very pleased with the Chinook and am looking forward to testing it out. It will certainly lighten my load

There sure is a lot to like about this tent. Nice little peek around and I like it a lot. I guess the next part is using it but based on this I'm sure you have a winner!!

One observation, how long is the tent in its stuff sack?

It appears long, is this because of the inclusion of the poles.

Yes it is packed with the poles- Long tent pole sections are 40cm so probably add a few centimetres to this... It is still up waiting to be shown off to hubby but I will check later. The 3rd pole sections are shorter and it is pre-bent.
The red will look pretty in some snow

I agree, the red looks great and on snow will be spectacular. Easy to find in low light or poor visibility too Lizzy which is huge advantage in poor weather.

I just got one of these too.
Spent my first night in it last night, it's a good size for 2 luxurious for 1!
Good points for me are the ease of set up, it has steep walls and hence very good headroom, it also has great air vents up high- it was frosty this morning and I had very little condensation

not so good point, the fly and the inner are very close together so it would pay to guy it out well in inclement weather.

Overall it seems like a really good tent and I'm very happy

I'm interested in this tent but I wonder if the fabric inner doesn't have enough venting for warm Aussie nights, as it only has mesh windows. Could I ask those who have one to comment on this please, if they've used it in warm weather?
