Lake St. Clair to Cradle Mountain transfer

I will be hiking the Overland Track solo the first week of May. Like many of us on private transport, I am thinking of how to get back from Lake St. Clair to the Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre, where I plan to park my rental car. I saw that most or all permits are taken over the long weekend and maybe there will be someone to possible take me back on either 7 or 8 May (I can adjust to other people's schedule)? I would prefer not to support the monopolistic pricing policy of the bus companies operating there.
