Posted: Wed 16 Jan, 2013 9:01 pmI recall many years ago reading about an article in similar fashion, where bushwalkers would go to pretty extreme places, set up table and chairs that were carried, dress to the nines and eat in a-la-carte style, the full works.
Haven't ever seen anything like it, until now.

About 12 years ago (I think) I was doing the Main Range circuit and just past Northcote Pass (on the steep hillside above Albina) passed a middle-aged couple dressed for a Sunday arvo picnic: She's in a skirt, low heels, stockings, twinset, pearls, lovely straw hat with a big twirly brim; he's in the classic navy blazer with brass buttons, shiny patent leather shoes, crisp pale blue pinstripe shirt, discreet yachting club tie - don't recall the headgear, though it may have been a yachting cap; and each was carrying a small wicker picnic basket.
They'd made pretty good time to get there from Charlotte Pass that early, so I assume they were doing the 'In Style' thing rather than being clueless twits. Either way, it made my day.
