Hi all, I decided that I would head up to the Friendly Beaches over the weekend for some photos, the weather was great and not one other person camped there! You can certainly tell that its the off season by the way the wallabies flocked to my camp site in search of an easy feed. I ended up with a couple of ok photos but I got the low tide for both the sunset and sunrise and this particular place isn't ideal for photos on the low tide and finding a reasonable composition was a bit difficult, and meant I couldn't utilise the best part of the sky for sunrise which was quite spectacular.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yeah TCP the 5D was certainly a very good decision and was a very nice upgrade from the 400D, makes a big difference to the IQ.

One question are they HDR?

One good lesson in these images that anyone can learn from - those horizons are flat as a tack - very level.
Can't decide on a fave, maybe 7 or 11.

Thanks Steve, no not HDR all single exposures. I did however use graduated neutral density filters on some of them e.g. a 3 stop soft graduation for no 11 from memory, and several of the others only used a circular polarising filter as the light was from behind and the sky quite dull so there was no need to even out the sky and forground.

Thanks Adam, yeah horizions are definantly something to consider as a crooked horizon can detract from an image. But I have been pondering lately about whether they can be too flat as I would think that with 17mm of horizon in a photo (especially on a full frame DSLR or film) there would be some natural curvature of the horizon which is excentuated by barrel distortion (but it should be noted that a horizon being level and being flat are two different things, a horizon should always be level )

That makes them all the more impressive. I can't get over how amazing the quality is, no noise, perfect exposure and stunning colours.
