My better half and I managed to snatch a weekend away from dogs, cats, and children towards the end of August, so we headed up to Cradle Mountain for a couple of days at the Lodge. This was at the end of one of the wettest Augusts on record for Tassie, with a lot of rivers in flood and no end to the rain in sight. But we made the trip anyway - and we are so glad we did! We arrived about 4 in the afternoon as the snow started to fall - and it kept falling all night. So we woke to grey skies and a snow covered landscape. We caught the shuttle to Ronnie Creek and headed off towards Crater Lake. It was fantastic to be walking in the snow and in such a beautiful place. Words simply cannot do it justice. After reaching Crater Lake and seeing it looking like I had never seen it before, we headed across to Wombat Pool, Lake Lilla, and back to Dove Lake. At that point, the weather started to close in and all landscape photo opportunities quickly vanished. We had a quiet afternoon and the next day was greeted with buckets'o'rain. We again went for a walk, but the camera stayed warm and dry (unlike us!). Sadly, we had to head back south that day, but the long drive had been absolutely worth it.
So, to the pictures - hope you enjoy them.
Cheers,
Alliecat
