It does happen! The weather man is predicting snow down to 1000m across Tassie (Central Highlands) on Wednesday.
BOM Wednesday 11 January: Cloudy. Scattered showers until evening, falling as snow above 1000 metres.

Yeah I noticed that too. I did get a little snow walking up Arm River Track in early December, it was nice.
I'm tempted to go for a walk on Wednesday now.

I walked in a decent snow cover on Mt KW1 last January, and then again on the Eastern Arthurs in February. Snow in summer is indeed quite common.
