We are on the summit of Mt Anne and cannot find the log book as described in Chapman's guide. Does it exist? Any tips on finding it?

It's a rectangle tin can jammed between rocks, towards the centre of the summit, last time I was there it had no pen in it!

Hah, we've found it, some doofus has dropped it down a big crack. Now to start the fishing operation...

- Log book in crack

- Fishing

THE MT ANNE LOG BOOK IS STILL DOWN THE CRACK AS OF 22 JANUARY.

Was up there yesterday, didn't see it. Got all of 5m visibility for most of the climb.

I witnessed the "doofus" inadvertantly kick the log book down the crack. It happened in early 2008. A perfectly innocent, albeit clumsy act. Not saying who it was though. As they say, what happens on Mt Anne stays on Mt Anne....

Bummer. Five year gap in proceedings. Someone needs to head up there with a fat magnet on some rope. Apparently, older books are held in State Archives, I think.

Those boxes are either aluminum or stainless = non-magnetic.

I'm thinking that book will be pretty manky by now, it was when I scribbled in it, what must have been 5 years ago or so.

I knew the case was stainless but, till now, i've never associated stainless with non-magnetic.

How about anchoring a rope to the surface of a rigid square of plastic or metal say 10cm by 10cm and slathering a layer of strong, quick-setting epoxy glue on the bottom surface. It might be possible to lower the square onto the side of the canister. Would need to be reasonably warm for the glue to set well though.

I made my first successful trip to the summit of Mt Anne in Nov 2012 after three other attempts since 1985. I cant describe the elation, like a drug and I want some more.
The only negative (miniscule) of the day was the absent logbook to scribble in.
Good to know it is still on the summit (sort of).
Time to come up with a plan to get it out of the crack!

There is Stainless that is and Stainless that is not

I suspect this one may be the cheaper non magnetic variety so worth trying a strong magnet

Hi... I'm planning to do this walk soon... It's a year on from the last post here..
Does anyone know if the log book has been retrieved or replaced?

Your mission Ash, should you choose to accept it ...
(Perhaps a shark hook on a weighted line?)

When is someone going to take a new box up there? Surely that is now the best solution.

It's moments like these I wish my ancestors hadn't devolved their prehensile tail.

Ok, I will hopefully be up there in a few weeks. I'll try the magnet idea and also take a shark hook and string.
If I can't get it, at least I'll solve the debate on what the box is made out of!!

With the wire latch on those boxes, surely a long stick with a hook on the end is the solution to getting it back?

Been to Mt Anne Strider? Not alot of sticks up top, and it'd be quite an effort to scramble one up there.
