Re: GAME: Where am I?

Not near Thetis, nor anywhere Graham mentioned.

This shot is taken from near the lake in the middle of this mtn. A popular campsite, but not where we camped on this trip.

Hmm. Is it on Mt Olympus? Lake Oenone? And if it is how do you know I've been there?

Thanks. They're all easy when you know. I've camped there twice and found the southern peak to be very interesting for a wander.

I guess you're not far from Feders but haven't been there and aren't digging out maps today.

Anyone want a clue?
The Game is very slow of late... :(

Yes - must be good hiking weather - or just a sense of competition exhaustion.
The photo competition is also lacking interest. We had got up to about 40 votes, but the current 10 competitions are attracting only around 20 votes.

Remote Peak?

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Thu 15 Mar, 2012 11:50 am

Yes from Remote Peak on the Companion Range looking to the south / south west.
Looking at from L-R (for those interested):
- Western Arthurs
- Folded Range
- White Monolith Range
- Greystone Bluff
- Cinder Hill
- Piners Peak
- Propsting Range
- Hardwood Hill
- Rookery Plain (Hardwood / Davey Rivers)
(amongst others)

Over to you Brian...

TAS Vegetable - 7 - Shelf Garden! this version seems to have a bit more colour saturation that the other one? I only noticed this eggs as my entry is VERY close to yours.

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Thu 15 Mar, 2012 1:08 pm

I just noticed this is the 3rd time I have posted this pic.
I titled it Shelf Garden, but I presume you know where it is?...

I also tweeked the colour a little as I thought the previous post was a bit washed out. I find that pictures can look very different on different monitors.
One of the complications with digital photography.

Looks like NE Ridge, Mt Anne.

And so it is - Mt Lot shrouded behind.

Here we are then...
A bonus point if you can name the peak that's really close to me here (not in photo).

Just before the final descent before you would climb Macs Mountain, which is to my right.

Is it west coast, or am i way off?!

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Looking at Frenchies, and Pyramid Hill, I'd reckon your on or near Perrins.

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Thu 15 Mar, 2012 3:31 pm

He's grazing past High Dome.
It'll probably be Walled Mt - at the end near Macs Mt.

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Thu 15 Mar, 2012 3:39 pm

...is that little peak in the middle Tramontane then Brian? (the Abel)

Re: GAME: Where am I?

Thu 15 Mar, 2012 3:56 pm

I don't know, as that name doesn't show up on The List, Stu
But it would be the roughly north south unnamed ridge lying east from high Dome which rises to 1016m - if that helps..

Correction - found Tramontane - the 1140 peak just south from the start of the Amphitheatre. So no - its not. This is further east from the Amphitheatre - which would be rising up on the RHS of photo.

Re: GAME: Where am I?

No doubt about you Brian, you're good!
From Lake Elysia we climbed to the Walled Mountain summit again, then proceeded to the tarns on the Walled plateau for much need water, as it was at least 30 degrees. Then we head down across a nice pineapple grass field and up onto a very rocky boulder ridge leading roughly west. Crossing some very large rocks, then down the northwest side of these boulders to another grassy area, leading west and we come to a gap in a rocky knoll, which reveals a quite steep descent of approx 150 metres before you would need to travel through the trees then ascend at least 250 metres to the summit of Macs Mountain.
Due to the heat and the challenge faced on the boulders by my wife with somewhat shorter legs, we decided this rocky knoll would be our turnaround point.
Having descended off Walled and as we are passing the tarns on the way back to Lake Elysia, we got a fairly brief but very heavy thunderstorm.
Here's a photo of it getting ready to dump on us...

Turning around ended up being a good decision, the rocky boulders on the ridge west of Walled Mountain plateau would have been rather dangerous in the wet.

Your go Brian.
