Central Plateau Amble as New Years Escape

Mon 05 Jan, 2009 2:43 pm

Came back from a most luvly 4 day walk yesterday, still re-acclimatising to domesticity and life in the city.

Few pics below, most taken by Suse.

Club trip notice:
31/12 nite - 4/1 NY Eve Escape @ Steppes & Central Plateau Amble
MR
1:100K Mersey & Meander, 1:25K Various
New Years Eve camp at the Steppes Homestead/Reserve followed by an off-track amble on the plateau starting from Lake Ada. Route to be decided by the group, but could include an excursion to Walls of Jerusalem or a circuit taking in as many beautiful lakes as possible. Trip pace cruisy. Philosophising, contemplation & photography encouraged. Reasonable fitness, sense of adventure, humour and 4 seasons gear required. Suitable for prospective or new members. Trip philosophy at http://www.ahack.org. Anyone interested could join either NY Eve camp only, or the walk only, or both. We'll leave after work on Wed 31/12 and camp at the Steppes from ~7.00pm onwards. Join us at camp either Wed nite or Thurs 9.00am for the start of the trip. Return to Hobart Sun 4/1 4.00 pm latest.

Trip report:
16 for New Years Eve @ Steppes, 5 for the walk. The forecast of 'snow' put a few off, but as so often the weather was better than expected :-) . Judging by the numbers @ Steppes an annual New Years Eve camp could be worth considering? For the walk we had lovely snow 1st nite (fluffy & dry) which was all gone by midday day 2, much nicer than rain! Many nice pics taken.

Camp at Theresa Lagoon, day 1 arvo, snow starting to fall properly

By day 2 lunch the snow is mostly gone. Some pea brain insists on 'different' footwear.
