You know when it all comes down to it it's phone. I really don't get the hype over which is better all the time, reminds me of Nikon vs Canon, Ford vs Holden, Windows vs Mac vs Linux. They are all tools, I kinda like the update, they have fixed a few problems, the back glass is gone, the camera is sapphire crystal so hard to scratch and the beveled edge is really nice.

In my business I use Apple computers so no matter what any other phone company can bring out iPhones will always be what I buy because they integrate with my system. If I used Windows or Linux I would probably then see what other phones could do but ever since the original iPhone we have never had a different mobile since.

But thats just me

Yeah nothing too exciting, I love what they've done and I think its a great phone. If i needed a phone it would be the top candidate, but it's what they have not done that means it is not improved enough to make me upgrade my 4S. Although it's an old design, I still think it looks the classiest on the market. Hoping for a high end WP8 with similar dimensions now, not holding my breath though!
Still no 32GB iPod nano - that disappoints me more! Why does wanting a physically small device seem to mean you want a cheap low end one? :-(

"A lot of the so called new technology in the new iPhone has been out on Android phones for a long time, this is what media are saying."

Cool, we get to read all about Android taking Apple to court and see big end lawyers making even more money after deciding how long they want the court case to go for.

I still love my SG2, enough so the SG3 is just a more expensive one that I do not own.

Haha, no, not chicken I nice Syrian inspired lamb pie with rocket salad and minted yoghurt. :D Told you it was more exciting than the iPhone 5...

I got a 4S as my first 'smart phone' love it, it does far more than I need and pretty sure I'll be happy with it until it dies. Unless of course someone brings out a phone that gives foot massages. Then I'm sold.

After spending large chunks of today unable to access Telstra's clogged up 3G network, the iPhone 5 on 4g is looking more appealing by the minute.....

Apple (and every other manufacturer) won't put all the goodies in a new product. They keep some back so they can lure you into another "upgrade" in 12 months time and extract another wad of dollars from your wallet. They put in just enough to make you think it is better. Apple already knows what the iPhone 6 is (no doubt has working prototypes) and all the technology already exists - this is the normal product development cycle - there is a date in the development of every new product when newer technology will not be considered in the design.

Good to read the opinions. Frankly not that encouraged to change, in fact tempted for a second iPhone 4s as an expendable bushwalking device but have the Lifeproof case and found it up to the job.

Actually have no idea on features that will tempt me as more than happy with the existing package.

One thing for me is the 4G service, I know it's only new, Telstra and Optus are both rolling out 4G. There are definitely other features I like in the new one but alas it will be my wife's upgrade anyway, but I will play

It will be interesting to see if the local 4g gets clogged up, I use it for my USB Broadband.
I will get an iphone 5 in the next month, not sure if I will purchase one from apple outright or get one on a plan from telstra
Should I get a 32 or 16gb for gps?

I'd go 32gb, but mostly to fit music on.

The IP5 benchmarks are out - fastest phone in the world! Even beats the Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7 Tablet! Despite only a dual core 1GHz - that's very impressive efficiency!

On the version I saw yesterday, Cradle Mt was shown south of Lake Will. It had the mountain in the right place, just the label for it was a bit off. However, the tracks around that area were a lot less distinct than on Google maps satelite view.

There's always some "huge scandal" surrounding a new iPhone launch, remember the 4 had "Antennagate" and the 4S "Batterygate". Both of which were largely BS.
The maps are a bit of a work in progress, I remember Google had Cradle etc in the wrong places for a long time as well. Hopefully Googles maps app will be up soon.
The new dock connector is a big improvement (shame it's not USB 3 though) and the nano sim is the size sim cards should always have been. It's just a shame we had to go through the earlier iterations first, but sticking with poorer tech just for the sake of it would be stupid, at some point you have to move forward. And after all Apple will make a squillion on new accessories etc that use the lightening connector!

I agree. We can't always allow technology to be held prisoner by backward compatibility. Sometimes technology needs to move on.

Define crap battery life.

Yep got one the other day. It's very smart and feels very light for it's size. (114g) Battery life with LTE/BT/WIFI and a lot of use from everyone playing with it seems certainly no worse, probably better than the old 4 that it replaced (and the 4 was better than friends' 4S's) Early days yet, as it's only had one full recharge since tuesday - I think it normally takes several recharge cycles for the day to day battery life to be revealed (which makes any comment in the media about battery life a bit premature, no?)

Had a play with S3 and the 5 together before purchasing. For all the S3's claimed speed etc, the 5 feels significantly snappier than the S3. Definitely a step up from the 4/4S.

There is an analysis of geekbench iPhone5 results at Anandtech and the pre-release geekbench results have been confirmed

I've been using Maps a bit, and I have to say it's already quite good. Sure, there are faults, and some of the misplaced locations and weird topography in 3d view are hilarious, but it basically works fine for my uses now, and will apparently get even better. Most of the legitimate complaints I have personally heard from actual people is to do with transit directions for public transport - this was integrated into the old Maps app but is not in the new one. Apple has hived transit off to the app developers and interfaces Maps with their apps. This works ok where it exists, but the seamless integration of the old Maps is lost (eg, you don't get the navigation between train and bus stop covered in the new version)

Missing is Streetview, which is a bummer, but you can download an app for that! :)

btw, don't believe everything you read in the media. What Apple actually said was:

We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-based maps. In order to do this, we had to create a new version of Maps from the ground up.

There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps, with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users with the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations. The more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.

While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.

That's hardly urging, is it?
