Lake Skinner

Wed 11 Feb, 2009 8:32 pm

Just a few photos from a walk up to Lake Skinner this past weekend. The sun managed to come out ocassionally on Monday morning, but it was mostly windy, coldish and raining. The snowy range was mostly misty, so I didn't bother going up.

It was raining when I arrived, and the only obvious shelter was behind a large boulder next to the lake. It has a small overhang, big enough to get under for cooking etc, but not big enough to stand under. The area behind the rock has a stone wall around it that others have built, which makes a nice area, but only leaves enough room for a one man tent. I later found some clearings big enough for tents and reasonably sheltered back down the track about 100m.

The lake wasn't very pleasant, but it was a really nice walk through the wet rainforest going in and out.

Nice pics - the rainforest looks beautiful.

Why was the lake "not very pleasant"?

kanangra - google maps is your friend here, a search for Lake Skinner takes you straight to it and shows the walking track too.

Actually, "not very pleasant" is probably a bit harsh! The photos were taken during the gaps in the rain, when the sun managed to poke through the clouds a bit and with some patience waiting for lulls in the wind. Mostly it was just raining and windy. I suspect today would be really nice up there!

The start of the track isn't shown properly on Google maps, but by the time you get to McDougalls Road, the way to the start of the track is well signposted.

Thanks for the comments.
