Waiting for the next generation is very cost effective.....you basically never buy anything.

I just went through this and went with Ocean Signal's PLB1. It's the smallest and lightest unit out there at this time. To me, larger units are more likely to be left at home or in the car.

I just got one of these also after reviewing the various options I had. Seems to be a great unit.

Yes I'm aware

, and will likely get the PLB1 which seems flavour of the month. It's just sometimes the next generation is close enough with tangible enough benefit to make it worth waiting, ie. there's no way I'd buy a laptop now when Haswell based models are just about become available, with substantially improved battery life.

Difference being, you already have a computer and can do about all the new can do. Not life critical. With PLB, it's potentially life and death, and you don't have an alternative. It's not gadget buying here unless you are playing with an optional gadget.

lol, wise, wise words!
Camera Bodies is my one vice, if only i had the funds to buy the very latest and greatest but when buying the previous version = a 75% saving from its original RRP, im yet to own a 'current' camera body.
I have told the wife however, perhaps next time id like to for once in my life buy the 'latest' and greatest. She told me to keep dreaming lol!
Travis.
PS - GME 410G here, never had a problem with it, its got a few stickers on the side of it now and it did cost me over 600bux a few years back... if only id waited hey
