Forgot the beacon.. doh!!! My first thought (him thinking he had lost it) was that this is where tracking could help..
Yeah, they did a good job of portraying the pain, could almost feel it!
All credit to those hunters (and his warm doggy) :)

yeah but beacons still arent fullproof its not a replacement for leaving detailed intentions with someone who can raise the alarm or inform authorities where to look for you.... he's lucky to be alive...

He'd be a bit dark on his mate, I read that account, not much explanation as to what went wrong there. Lucky to live yeah... I guess if you survive the fall there's not much else to do other than try to get home :)

well other people would have given up with those injuries and that much pain, how people react can vary massively

Even here there was an element of giving up & some luck involved it seems. He would have been stuffed if that creek did break its bank or a boulder took him out while he was asleep.

I read the account, it's an incredibley gutsy story.
A cool head in an extraordinarily difficult situation.

The last one (I saw) was even more so- a seemingly hopeless situation.
Literally snapped in half, saved by TAZ :) Many of the ones iv'e seen would have been so much less drastic with a plb..
Found the index to these anyhow:

thing is with modern travel you get so many people now ending up in situations and terrain they arent used to, they dont realise how easy it is to get into the crap until it's too late and they are in it.

The guy lost on the lava was a classic, a quick trip with the camcorder ends up being 5 painful days! I have a feeling Bear covered this one. Great armchair viewing though!! Much more insightful than Bear/survivor style to me.

This one really drove home for me how hard it would be to signal someone that isn't looking for you.
