Car Access to Lees Paddocks and to Cockle Creek

Thu 12 Dec, 2013 6:52 am

I've never been to Lees Paddocks, and last time I was at Cockle Creek (over 10 years ago), the road in was rather challenging in a low car, with many very large and deep holes.

I'm planning to start walks from both these places around mid 2014 and would grateful if anyone can tell me if access in a modern low car will be OK. If not I can use something else, but prefer the convenience of the car.

Thank you.

Have just had a 2wd car into Cockle Creek with no issues. But being a dirt road this can always change.
Lees Paddocks, save the car and get something else.

Road to Cockle Creek is fine and has to be for visitor access to the national park. I can't remember it being bad in the 13 years I've lived in Tassie?

A friend had a low riding 24 seat bus in Cockle Creek a couple of weeks back and didn't mention it being a challenge - so can't be too bad.
The Lee's Paddocks track is fine for a 2wd, though perhaps not a low riding sports car. It's just pot holes and gravel. The bridges have been fixed up recently as a bonus!

Thanks for that folks. That's helpful.

My memory could indeed be going back beyond your 13 years in Tassie Strider :) Good to know no problems now.

Back this morning from Lees Paddocks. Lots of 2wd cars using the road.

I should have added in my last post that we had an interesting night in the hut at Lees Paddocks. It was a very warm night and my husband had his feet out of the sleeping bag. Much to his surprise he was bitten on his heel by a quoll in the middle of the night. It left a calling card on the sleeping bag too!

I've had various critters run across my face at times, but never a nibble. Maybe the quoll didn't fancy the taste, hence the calling card

Definitely Quoll poo on the sleeping bag! For GPS GUIDED - calling card is the poo.
