They are a PLB, not an EPIRB, hence are not an "ocean product".

I think what they were getting at was that they are made by ocean signal and had an attachment for a PFD. The writer speculated they may have needed a more clear view of the sky. Can't remember the site unfortunately. I tend to agree with you guys. Just curious if anyone had heard of any rescues since its a new product and everyone here seems pretty clued in!
The 7yr battery life is appealing. Thanks for the input guys

The only differences between EPIRB and PLB are the latter is not required tonfloat with the antenna clear of the water and is only mandated to a 24hr transmission period (rather than 48hrs).

if there is I wouldnt rely on one.. most of the size of a PLB is taken up by the battery to be able to transmit at a strong enough power and for long enough to give a good assurance of contacting a satelite and allow rescue services especialy helicopters to locate people who need rescuing. they also have extendable aerials to improve satellite connection.
a PLB watch will either transmit at a much lower power and or for a shorter duration, making them less reliable than dedicated PLB's given your watch runs continuously , if your battery strength isnt good when you set off the plb function, you may not get a satellite connection at all.

Wayno you are assuming battery technology won't advance beyond current specs. However, it already is...

when dedicated PLB's are the size of watches then i will think about using a PLB watch, until then i'll stick to a dedicated PLB

Why wait? There's already one. Not sure weighweenies would adopt it though even with the Ti band. At $18k a pop, PLB rescueMe is absolute bargain basement priced. Now, only if it has GPS mapping display I would think about it...

Oh wait. It's 140g. With rescueMe PLB1 at 116g, this will be a hard decider for some.

PLB Rescue me, can't tell you what time it was when you got into trouble. That feature alone has to be worth $16500.

Now you are thinking! Also no count down timer to battery exhaustion over that precious golden 24 hrs of operation.

Sorry mate yes I did see this. Unfortunately the deal I knew of no longer exists. The cheapest I've seen lately is CH Smith at $329.

Just bought one from epirbhire.com.au or $280 or $290. Its battery expiry was 2021. Looked like new came with a float pouch as well, read the blurb I thought it was good value for money. They were extremely good to deal with, posted the same day as payment, follow up emails to make sure I received it and information links to register the plb in my name.

I'm not connected in any way with them, just a very happy customer who likes to give credit where it's due.

Oh yeah, that price was delivery included
