Health and fitness thread? Sticky?

Postby Moondog55 » Sat 31 May, 2014 6:05 pm

Having seen these threads on other forums I was wondering whether or not we need a dedicated thread here. More of a general thread than those we have already which seem to be dedicated to either training or diet.
I'm motivated by my beloved attempt to get her weight under control and how much better I personally feel having shed 15 kilos of extra belly fat.

According to the tables I am still overweight, I never want to be as skinny as I was when 21 but another few kilos and I think I'll be happy.
The Boss says I haven't looked better in years and I'm not having any real hunger pangs or desire to gorge on icecream or devour Mars bars
Just for the record I am 186cm tall and my inflated chest measurement is 117cm

Honestly I have no idea why.
Really all I have done is cut out my weekly kilo of brie and the crackers that go with it and we stopped eating icecream. Normally we both eat fresh healthy food, just too much of it. I haven't even upped my walking much either. I did tho have an extreme low blood sugar moment this PM around 1530 because I forgot to eat at lunchtime and had to eat a bowl of weetbix with a banana

Dropping 15kg is like bushwalking without a pack. The ecstasy of that scenario should motivate anyone !!! Certainly getting rid of a bit of non productive weight must be about the simplest physical boost available to anyone who is carrying a bit - easier for lungs, heart, joints and so on - and it can save money !!!

I do however relate to the ice cream and brie (separately :D ) deprivation pangs.

Drop 15 kg? I'd be close to a skeleton. And there is NO WAY I'm living without the Camembert and occasional ice cream. Connoisseur Caramel, Honey & Macadamia, anyone?

I think the best way to lose weight is to hang out in any place ending in 'stan for a couple of months :)

You've discovered CCHM too I see. Woolies and Coles have their own cheaper versions that are still rather spiffy imo. Occasional ice cream - no worries. A whole container per sitting? Not so good. :(

I didn't realize it was possible not to eat a whole tub in one sitting.

Actually, I believe it would more often involve getting up a number of times for a reasonable looking helping... Perhaps I shouldn't have given anyone the idea though...

It takes a great deal of will power - the first time. When you take the half-empty container out half an hour later, you're fine.

This is starting to become a problem, my damned pants won't stay up and I've run out of holes in my belt.
Also on a serious note; my body really is telling me to eat, it's those damned fat cells wanting to be filed up to overflowing again.
I'm still the same weight give or take but still slimming down, lean body mass is denser than fat

Solution:
New belt goes at top of shopping list.
Hey - at least it's a fairly cheap item.

Just take it to your local shoe repair shop. They normally add extra belt holes for you. Mine does it as a freebie.

Or invest in a hand punch and add holes as required. It's also handy for those MYOG projects.
Just move it!

I used my little rechargeable drill and added an extra hole that way.
Interestingly my beloved says I am snoring less badly over the last few weeks

Phrettivhalliestan.

Week done with the weight loss and snoring change. Have you noticed feeling less tired over the day too?

Many people who snore have some sleep apnea too, that decreases sleep efficiency.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

Yes, although the difference isn't all that great I have noticed I take less time and much less coffee to wake up. I just repaired my sled harness so tomorrow I'll start my pulling training. Last year I found 2 or three weeks was just enough to get me started and made the first couple of days pulking much easier
