Yes it is in Iceland. Probably the most famous and popular walking area in the country.

Not me yet, I haven't named the area nor walk. After recognising Iceland, I have been busy and not had a chance to search for the exact answer. So thanks for passing on the baton.

Moving across to East Asia again, on a major island locality... A well known local mountain near a major metropolis in the distance, with a name associated with the facial profile of a deity. Very popular with local hiking groups. Extra points for naming the major building in the distance and the airport.

No where near Penang. Go North-East and across a sea and one of the four tiger economies of the region.

Getting warm there Wayno! Yep, the island is Taiwan but Yushan (Jade Mtn, the premier peak on the island) is certainly not close to an airport like this nor a major metropolis.

Ok, looks like this one is to obscure here. It's the Guan Yin Mtn that's just to the north-east of Taipei. A very popular local mountain climb. It's so named because the profile is as that of the side face profile of Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy). The peak is at 616m ASL.

The airport is Songshan (TSA), the old Taipei international airport from many decades ago. The big solitary building is The Grand Hotel of Taipei.

Wayno got closest, your turn.

It is a train and the tradition is for AT thru hikers to moon it. Not the west coast of the US.

Ummm... Don't know the AT well enough but the geography looked northward. NY and further up. Now, where that 'train' from? Google Google...

Well besides being a bit higher than sea level, I am a bit surprised this one has not gone off with a bang.

and your clues were? I know where it is, i've got identical photos with varying amounts of snow, but I dont want to dominate the NZ photos when theres a good chance for others to guess. looks like no one else may have been up here, in which case you people really should get out more, its such a highly accessible location for NZ

yes Ruapehu it is. Not sure of the glacier name - but it filled the old volcanic caldera. The ridge in view is the way people walk to the Dome.
Edit - [I think it was Whangeahu Glacier. The one you mention appears to lead into Crater Lake - which is over the ridgeline]]
