John, it could well be the Khumbu valley - I can't remember, it was so long ago. We were on the way to the Everest hotel from Namche Bazaar.

That would be right - it's the view looking back down the valley, the buildings down the bottom would be the NP entrance gate. So you probably took the easy way up to the Everest View, or you crossed the Syangboche Airstrip on the way back to get that view.

Since you mentioned the Everest View, I cannot resist posting one of my favourite images. Apologies.

See if you can name the peaks...

Ron, you obviously had much clearer weather than we did. Everest was always under cloud when we were there :(

Thanks walkabout, the yak was a clue. I'd like to visit the region myself eventually.

Correct eggs, it's a very distinctive feature. Hot spring mineral deposits built up continuously for a long time, maybe hundreds of years.

That took a bit of research - since it was not an active geyser.

Back to NZ again:

On the Port Hills near Christchurch. Lyttleton Harbour is below to the RHS. It is a harbour formed from an old volcanic caldera.

If you think that, I had better give some clues. The rock is volcanic and I am looking down on the ocean.
PS it is not the first time I have posted this shot on this website.

I believe this may be the Port Hills in the Canterbury district near Christchurch, possibly looking in the vicinity of Lyttleton Harbour somewhere in the fog.

Thanks eggs, I wasn't sure about the overlook.

USA again, I don't have much else unless I can unearth some ancient photos and scan them.

We're in the Grand Canyon?

Could we be on the Kaibab trail?

Not Kaibab, but it is in GC. Looking for the name of this location/building.
There are two clues in my previous post.

Ok, we are hiking up, so more likely the less steep Bright Angel Trail if we are heading to GC Village on the south side.

The first rest stop is Pipe Creek resthouse? I can't even remember it, but I hiked through there in 1980.

Scrub that, it's the Three Mile Resthouse on Bright Angel Trail.

The one above you is the Mile and a half resthouse.

The famous cable cars at one of the Isle's geographic endpoints!

It is a cable car, but I'm looking at the destination not the cable car.

I'm on a peninsula and I'm looking at an island.

Spot on MickyB. We couldn't use the cable car as it was out of operation but the Beara peninsula was very interesting and I recommend it.
