'A noise jolted them awake, a primal yell that was part human, part animal. Part ghost.'
That brilliant final sentence in the 'Backpacker' story on Anish completed a great story on a truly remarkable walk and woman. 70 km/day for 60 days (the result of 14 hours of walking time /day averaging 5 kmph) with not a single rest day and no support crew. WOW! It's like doing a 14 hour rogaine every day for 2 months but with a pack. While her pack was lighter than that of most walkers on the trail, that's an advantage of walking so far each day - she only needed to carry food for three days to get between towns 210 km apart to pick up the mailed food parcels and go shopping! And no cookware or stove -all uncooked meals and taking only a few minutes to get away in the morning with breakfast while she walked. Extreme grit and determination and a body and physiology suited to putting up with the extremely high demands made upon them would account for her feat. And a nice thing was that she didn't do it to impress anyone but herself.
Thanks guys for putting up those links!
