Maps

Tue 13 Oct, 2015 2:02 pm

Where can one find maps? I have been able to locate some, such as the Brisbane ranges for example, but others I simply cannot seem to find (seeking real maps, not that electronic stuff). Specifically I am currently seeking a map for the Cole State Forest (Beeripmo walk) and the Grampians. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

AFAIK Melbourne Map Centre 738-740 Waverley Rd Malvern East is the only map shop still operating in Melbourne.

I knew there must be a gov site somewhere...Downloadable & print our own, or go to officeworks & get them to do it for you.

There's about six bushwalking shops in and around Little Bourke Street between Elizabeth Street and Hardware Lane, with at least one on a side street to the south, left side going with the direction of traffic. You could easily spend an hour looking at all these shops. Paddy Pallin and Bogong have good map collections.

Beeripmo Walk: http://www.depi.vic.gov.au/__data/asset ... o_Walk.pdf

There is a similar map for Brisbane Ranges on the Parks Victoria website. Not proper walking maps but all you'll need in those areas.

Re Grampians: you can purchase brochures titled "Southern Walks: Grampians National Park: and "Northern Walks: Grampians National Park" at the Brambuk Visitor Centre in Halls Gap. They are not much more than a colour version of this: http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/__data/assets ... Update.pdf but have brief descriptions for each walk.

And tough luck if you're not going past Brambuk on your way. Some regional visitor centres will stock these brochures - means you can't plan an early start though, if you have to wait for a visitor centre to open.

There are a couple of useful PDF's on the Parks Victoria website, with distances and track notes (but not maps) for the overnight walks in the Grampians.

A number of links and track notes such as this one http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks ... ll-plateau - refer to:
Topographical Map Required
Southern Grampians Outdoor Recreation Guide
Scale: 1:50,000
Produced in 2008 by Spatial Vision

I have asked for this at the Hamilton Visitor Centre, they were out of stock and not sure whether Brambuk would have it. I haven't tried buying it online yet.

Hope that's of some help.

+1 to Melbourne Map Centre

For the Grampians we bought the two Spatial Vision ones - Southern Grampians and Northern Grampians - whcih we have found easy to use. I bought the maps at MMC and got them to laminate the maps for me. I am sure the maps would be available in the city bushwalking stores as well.

For the Beeripmo trail, we just used John Chapman's walking notes and maps. The trail is fairly well signposted for most of the way so I never referred to the 'proper maps' we had brought along with us.

Bogong equipment in the city and the Wilderness shop in Box Hill stock Spatial Vision topographical Grampians maps.
