I have a free long weekend coming up and was considering trying the Dry Diggings Track, from Castlen
Maine to Daylesford. There is not a great deal of information I can find regarding suitable campsites and water availability. It seems to be popular with mtn bikers but there isn't much info for walkers. I can download a map and garmin file from their site though. Anyone out there who has done this 66 km section ? Oh yea, what is the easiest way to get back to the trailhead after the walk ? Public transport seems pretty infrequent. Thanks all in advance for the help.

Mutley, this thread has some related info, probably not quite what you're after but may be of interest:

I did part of this walk on the weekend. The word "dry" is indeed descriptive. The county is terribly parched and the Loddon River near Glenuce looks like it hasn't flowed for months..

there is book with strip maps of the the walk, I dont have it at hand. The Goldfields track offers some excellent walking, a well maintained trail. Some good overnight places to stay. It strikes me as one the most underrated and under utilized walks. I have the following sections separately
Ballarat to Creswick
Castlemaine to Daylesford
Bendigo to Castlemane
The trails are well serviced by public transport
