Favolaschia calocera - orange pore fungus

There seems to be a nasty increase in the occurrence of Favolaschia calocera in the north west.
Known to be at Mt Montgomery and Christmas Hills.
It's a nasty little beast and spreads quite rapidly so please clean those walk boots peoples....

It is important to track distributions of introduced species and sightings of Favolaschia
calocera can be submitted at the Fungimap website at http://fungimap.org.au/

It's now known as an invasive weed and mycologists fear that as it increases it is displacing native fungi.
Originally from Madagascar it now shows up in many places across the world. New Zealand had it before us, it is now fairly widespread in QLD, was relatively unknown here until quite recently and now is showing up in many places across Tasmania with reasonably rapid expansion across the north and north west.
Apparently it can be spread just by coming in contact with spores, so hands, clothing and feet etc can all carry.

Putting it out there so people are aware and asking if seen if they could please log it on the site given or give details to Genevieve gates as she is now keeping records of occurrences.
If people don't have details to contact Genevieve then she can be contacted via the Tasmanian Fungi facebook page.

Sorry, I personally haven't found any papers on effective means of control but that's not to say they are not out there.
Imagine it would not be an easy task due to the nature of the beast.
There are several management plans in place for different areas...ie: New Zealand and SE Queensland/Northern Rivers of NSW but from memory they not necessarily specific and address invasive species generally with mention to the Favolaschia calocera.

It's something that I wasn't overly concerned about until a recent find at Christmas Hills just west of Smithton and recognised through seeing the same in SE Queensland. It was then brought to light that it is occurring in more areas across the island.
More digging to do

PS: WA government has released some papers on its occurrence there also.
