TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. Bucket list trip to Canada and Alaska in winter.
I really think I have a full handle on sleeping and clothing now, and I was thinking I would just take the little Minaret with me as I really cannot justify a new Hilleberg.
I was looking at Cabelas for a bigger basecamp tent [ sharing costs with the US mate ] and I saw this one

External tensioned frame and integral pitch; both of which are must haves in my opinion for erecting in any sort of wind.
Wind tunnel test show OK to about 80 kph and better pitching and additional side guys would really help there, either sewn in or simply quick clips
Add on valances and I think it might work.
By the time I put my big Arctic sleeping system inside the tent there wouldn't really be much excess room

Well I said cheap but only in relation to Hilleberg
Nature hike tents are OK for summer and if you are of Asian build, I'm 184 tall and an XXL I fill up a Minaret on my own

For really cold weather you have to also take into account the sheer volume of sleeping bag, that adds 400mm to my length and width when I am laying down due to the 400mm loft.
Even in my Australian winter sleeping bag I take up most of the Minarets internal volume
