Looking for an Overnight loop/circuit trail

Sun 21 May, 2017 6:59 pm

Hello Lurkers
I'm looking for any suggestions for an overnight loop/circuit trail in the 10km-15km distance and within 2-3hrs of Melbourne.

Cheers

Beeripmo is my standard for a quick overnighter. Can leave Melb at 9, start walking around 12 then be in camp before dark.

Day 2, complete the loop and be back n Melb by mid-afternoon.

A great intro for newbies as well.

Lots of options on the Baw Baw plateau too :)

I haven't walked the circuit but stayed at Beeripmo a couple of weeks ago. Great location for a night out :)

Just be aware there are three decent hills on day 1 - the falls right at the start, Cave Hill and then Sugarloaf near the campground. All manageable but they certainly get the heart rate up!

Day 2 is all downhill and easy.

Brisbane Ranges perhaps?

Yes, Brisbane ranges.
Start at Pines car park and walk 12k to campsite, next day walk same track back or there is a 4k shortcut if in a hurry.

8 Mile flat/ 8 Mile spur/ Refrigerator gap/ The Bluff walking track/ The Bluff summit/ camping at the Bluff hut or nearby.
Day two return via either 14 mile track or 16 mile jeep road. Lunch at Ritchie's hut and return to 8 Mile Flat via the High Track.
You must be fit and be able to navigate some small unclear sections of the route , but it is a great 2 day/ one night camping loop in the Alpine N.P. starting/ending along the Howqua river.
Don't try trekking up 8 Mile spur in hot weather. It is steep and tough going even in May.
