Where to purchase physical maps?

Mon 27 Nov, 2017 1:06 pm

Hey was wondering where to purchase topographic maps in TAS on the 1:25000 scale (not digital). Is this the scale most of you guys use?

Thanks

Yes JJJ - Tasmap's 1:25 000 are probably the most useful still, even though the series has been discontinued. As far as I know, Tasmap still sells them, see https://www.tasmap.tas.gov.au/do/category/25000TOPO for a list. Otherwise bushwalking shops, and places like the Tasmanian Map Centre https://map-centre.com.au/ should have them. Every now and then a crusty old bushwalker - or someone who loves e-maps more - gets rid of their stash (eg on eBay, Gumtree or here). You could put out a specific list on the "Market Square" section here, with a "Wanted to Buy" heading.

Happy hunting,

Peter

Service Tas in Hobart also sells 1:25000 maps.

Available via online purchase (plus postage) direct from TasMap, at Service Tas in Hobart or the Map Shop in Elizabeth St (Hobart again) or various bushwalker shops, until stocks of existing 1:25,000s run out. Once that happens you have to make do with the far less detailed new 1:50,000 series. I generally go to the Map Shop, as they have the largest stock apart from TasMap themselves. They also offer a laminating service.

There are some 1:25,000s that are already unavailable, such as Rugby.
