I have lost my old paper maps to water and silverfish
Is there a good digital download available for my OPPO phone?
Or is gaia on its own enough and is it worth the subscription?

OSM is fine. Wandered a bit around there with it and seemed fine. No phone coverage quite often in the lower spots. Have fun.

Qtopo maps can be downloaded and printed, or transferred to devices as pdfs etc, either by selecting an area, or downloading a predefined map. See
https://qtopo.information.qld.gov.au/
There is quite a lot of info on using QTopo maps with smartphones on this forum. Search for qtopo.

Sorry Ken

Brisbane Ranges are actually in Victoria, not Queensland.

Oops! QTopo search finds Brisbane Range in Mt Stanley State Forest, about 100 kms NW of Brisbane.

OSM maps do not show as much detail as my old inch to the mile map did but should work well enough.
One thing most maps don't show are all the old mine shafts and deep holes in the ground around this area, some of them will be quite dangerous, they were pretty bad when I was a teenager. But I doubt I will be getting that far off the track

The Victorian WMS online map server shows 10 metre contours in the Brisbane Ranges. It can access more than 1000 layers. There may be some info about mine shafts in there somewhere!

The GetLost 7722-3_MEREDITH_GetlostMap_V11.tif 25,000 scale map includes the Brisbane Ranges. It looks like 10 metres contours, and seems to show some mine sites. The map is a GeoTIFF that includes georeference info. Oruxmaps and Avenza, plus others, work with these files. Theres a bit about the GetLost maps on this forum.

MD - what ken333 posted is on the money.

Had a quick look on my phone and there are many mines marked on the Bris Ranges map.
GetlostmapsBrisRanges.jpg

I have been using their geotiff maps since around 2018. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=27634&p=347650&hilit=getlost#p347650

I mainly had the 1:50k on my devices, but recently got a few of the 1:25k.

If you don't want to use them with a device, you can grab the jpg files as well and print them out. I have printed some out as well. Pretty much what I used to get from VicMap.

I'm afraid that all of that information went over my head. I simply don't really understand digital information as easilly as print on paper.
Maybe I'm just technologically challenged

The GetLost map lists on Google Drive can be a bit clunky to navigate. Here is a link to the 7722-3_MEREDITH_GetlostMap_V11.jpg 25,000 scale map which includes the Brisbane Ranges. You can download it and view it on your phone or computer.

Here is a link to the GetLost map cropped to just the Brisbane Ranges area.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BeSOPx ... sp=sharing
MS Paint will print this on 3 x 2 A4 pages or scale it down to a single A4 page. Or take it to Officeworks and print it on larger paper.

If you are used to using OSM maps on Gaia, you can use that to show where you are, and view the GetLost jpg map to see detail around where you are.
You can open the GetLost jpg with an image editor, such as Paint (for windows), and copy an area of the map, save it as a new image, and print it, if you want a paper copy. Let me know if you want step by step instructions.
Edit: I just tried to open the jpg in Paint, and Paint wouldnt open it. Its too big. I cropped it with Microsoft Photos and it then opened in Paint. Or just print the cropped file with MS Photos.

Check out Windy.com and zoom in it seems OK for basics you can pin a Lat and Long
from a click of the mouse for a GPS waypoint insertion.
