PS - I think this is looking NWish along the northern shore - so part of the Traveller Range behind rather than Ida.
Yes, it's Rim Lake. Looking southwest with Mt Ida in the cloud.

We did conclude that when you posted it in 2011, Graham.
But these shots suggested it might not be quite the same peak in view.

Tyndalls. Geikie on the right, then Owen, then Sedgwick. I'm assuming you have to be somewhere near the summit, but I've never seen more than the inside of some very thick clouds above Lake Tyndall so nothing to go on other than guesswork.

I'm probably not near enough to the summit here. But I am very close to something else which the 4 people in the photo have just been looking at.
That's what I am after for this one.
There is also a cave in the photo which has a reputation.

The Huntley Lookout? Surely that cannot be the camping cave - how on earth would you get into it? Besides, I'm starting to think that ridge is part of The Bastion . . . which makes Whitham Bluff seem more likely.

That's a bit of a spread of answers there.
You can go next - but let me explain.
I am not on Huntley Lookout - though sunrise from there is on the wish list.
I am above Lake Huntley - the high part to the NW around the 1500m contour.
The 4 below were still near the top of the 300m cliffs down to the lake.
The conglomerate rock has been polished and is rounded over the edge making that a rather scary place.
As for the climbers cave - no, its not the hole in the cliff face on the LHS, but yes it is the dark slot above the vegetation and pools on the RHS.
To give perspective - here are a few more shots:
- Cave is accessed by walking between the 2 pools and following a pad through the scrub
- A straight on view
- Inside the cave

Think I picked up that pad when rambling down to Geikie from Lake Tyndall, and couldn't figure out why it was there or why it seemed to disappear so abruptly. Didn't know about the cave at that stage. Really need to get back up on that range with some decent weather.

That's the Snowy Range, and Weld sticking out to the left. You don't appear to have a lot elevation and I think you're looking over Lonnavale... but I still don't know where from...Near Mt Jackson?
Thu 02 Jul, 2020 7:19 pm
I agree with Rick about the Snowy Range but not Lonnavale area. There is a transmission line in the foreground and the only area I can find with a line that would cross the view at that angle is around Kaoota. Perrins Ridge?
Thu 02 Jul, 2020 7:28 pm
Well, you got one thing right - that is the Snowy Range at the back. Not Lonnavale, not Jackson, not Kaoota, not Perrins Ridge. You''re on the wrong side of the city.

Were you on Platform Peak?
Fri 03 Jul, 2020 10:04 am
I was once upon a time, but not this day. Platform was a little earlier in the year.
This one was to finish peakbagging the SE section. Mission accomplished.

From Mt Marian?
Fri 03 Jul, 2020 11:13 am
This peak is not an Abel. I could see Marian from the summit ridge.

Yes, the rumours persist. Fortunately there is a legal way to access it, which I found accidentally through a walking blog. Abbotsfield Rd, Elliston Rd, Mt Faulkner Rd. You can't drive very far up the last - just to the last private driveway - unless you have a high-clearance 4WD and a lot of nerve. Just stick to the vehicle tracks that climb up and when Wards Trail crests after curving to the south, about 800m from the summit, you go bush. No track, but there are faint pads. Aim for the ridge about 100m north of the summit as south of that the rim is very scrubby.

South of there Eggs.
Thanks for the info NNW

That looks a lot like Mt Dromedary over there and if it is you're probably looking across the river from somewhere near the Bridgewater causeway.
Fri 03 Jul, 2020 11:33 pm
That's not correct Graham but you're not a long way off

Limekiln Point?
Sat 04 Jul, 2020 11:11 am
There are 3 Limekiln points on the list NNW, 2 on the Derwent. I'll assume you meant the Lindisfarne one, that's still a couple of km's from where I am.

Looking at ListMap, I also see there is more than one Bedlam Walls. Something really needs to be done about this sort of name duplication. It's dreadfully confusing.
From the angle, you don't appear to be much above the water. Store Point? If you're on the Bowen Bridge I'm probably going to want to strangle something.
Sat 04 Jul, 2020 12:55 pm
Not Store Point nor the Bowen Bridge. You're going the wrong way. I am on a named point.
Sat 04 Jul, 2020 2:02 pm
Montagu? I'm amazed you can see Dromedary from that far down the river.
