Six Foot Track transport

Postby Akatak » Mon 31 Aug, 2020 8:44 pm

hi
We are hoping to walk the six-foot-track in September but having trouble arranging one-way transport from Jenolan Caves back to Katoomba. Does anyone have any ideas they can share please? thanks in advance. :D

Unfortunately there are road works/issues on the main road into Jenolan Caves severely limiting access at present.
The usual bus transfer using CDC tours in Katoomba is unavailable until next April according to their web site.
We used them when we walked the SFT from Jenolan back to Katoomba some years ago, and what I would have recommended.
It looks like Edith Road is the only practical detour into the caves area at present and it isn't suitable for heavy vehicles.
One option would be a private car shuffle if you can organise it, but that would be a pain IMHO.
Otherwise taxi or other hire vehicle is likely the only other (expensive) option unless you have a kind relative or friend willing to pick you up.
I guess hitchhiking might suit some adventurous souls but I wouldn't do it myself. Others may have a different view.
And there may be limited traffic around in any case, as the caves themselves are still closed due to Covid19.
If you're feeling really energetic spend a night or two at Jenolan then walk back? :)

thanks JohnW - appreciate your response. We thought as much - we're thinking maybe pick up a lift/taxi from Mt Victoria to Jenolan Caves and do the walk in the opposite direction. Might be easier to arrange this way. Thanks

If you have enough people a Taxi can be affordable.
Otherwise Ive had luck with air tasker... theres plenty of blue mountain locals who would be happy for the extra cash

Do it in 4 days and walk there and back with a night at Caves house. The bunkhouse is cheap enough and has communal cooking facilities. Probably cost less than a cab. Allum Creek or Little river is easy enough in a day.

Any update on this?
What option did you guys go for if you went for it?
Planning to do the walk this weekend and have just hit this roadblock of lack of transportation from Jenolan Caves!
