I was thinking of something different when I noticed a shot I have from Mt Ruapehu.
It is of Hauhungatahi - a smaller peak of 1521m height which matches the profile pretty much exactly.
I think wildwanderer may have been on the Tama Lakes track when he took this - or skirting low down on Ruapehu itself.

Hmmmm eggs. You could be right it was a few years ago and I can't remember exactly. The photo is taken from mangatepopo hut.

There is line of sight to both Ruapehu and Hauhungatahi.

Either Greg or Eggs can go.

Not an international contribution and while someone else is finding something appropriate to post: but as "proof of life" this is where I am walking at present, the astute observer will see that I am in Oz.

It is only a day walk to the top of this mountain although pretty steep in places, fortunately there are a few wooden ladders and pathways to help get you to the 1671m summit which is part of the Central Alps. It is around a two hour drive from Nagoya but quicker for us coming from Tajimi.

I'm struggling to find anything on this mountain or vlllage. Is it Mt. Nagiso?
Although the height doesn't match at 1680m it's pretty close.

Yep, Mt Nagisodake it is. I have it recorded as 1671m, I also looked at a map which seems to indicate 1667m and you have something that tells you 1680m, the mean of those is 1672 so lets call it quits! Apologies to anyone who was deterred by my stated elevation. Anyhow it is a nice walk up in the hills forming the boundary between Gifu and Nagano prefectures. Over to you John.

Thanks Greg, that one proved very tricky. Even the village name/clue was elusive.
I found an "official" list of Japanese mountains but nothing listed as 1671m.

All week I've been trying to catch up on watching Le Tour de France, so this might be appropriate in an odd way.
General locality will do. USA:

No. This oddly named valley, bordered by some big mountains, is south of Montana.

Those villages look kind of like Los Alamos?... but the grass looks more like hawaii... I'll edit this if I can come up with a better guess.

Good enough icefest. Somewhat confusing, I'm actually on top of Koko Crater at "Koko Head Lookout".
The "proper" Koko Head is a similar feature nearby dwarfed by the crater, at about half its height.
