On a fire trail that you could drive a tank on

Both the mountain on the left (rear, with the cliffs) and the gap to the left of the right-most mountain are named after a nearby, well-known river

No clue, but I'll start the ball rolling with somewhere in the Budawangs?

Quite some distance from the Budawangs

Is it from the T3 trail overlooking the Colo?

Right region, broadly speaking, but no (and a different NP). The nearby river that shares its name with features in the photo is equally well-known in bushwalking circles.

The firetrail I'm on is named for the hill that I'm looking east from

Time to spill this... It's looking at (L-R) Kowmung Mountain, Chiddy Obelisk, Mt Yubarra, Kowmung Gap (Woolpack Hd behind) and Mt Marrup from the slopes of Mt Armour, having bashed up from the Kowmung River earlier
Someone else can post

From the driest state - SA : (extra points if you see the old, hidden track and know where it ends.)

School holidays. It's First Falls reservoir in Cleland NP, 10 km's from the GPO.
The old foot track (late 19thC?) left, heads to the ridge top and Old Bullock Track/Pioneer Women's Trail. In days of old the Falls were approached from above to avoid private holdings along the valley floor.
Someone else please post.

A few of these games are quite slow now.
I am sure a few of us knew where this was, just letting others have a go.
Shifting to the NT

Mt Sonder behind. From Ormiston Gorge?
Mon 14 Jul, 2025 8:37 pm
We had left the Ormiston Pound loop walk heading south on the ridges, and this is the view back to Ormiston Gorge and yes, Mt Sonder behind.

Could be the Pilot?
Tue 15 Jul, 2025 3:47 pm
Yes, it’s the Pilot. The clouds cleared briefly for me to get this shot. Well done on recognising it without much information.

While not particulary distinctive as cairns go, there aren't many others of that size and shape in NSW. This is also in NSW... I'm standing at a named feature that is out of shot.

Nice view
I am on a main peak in SA
Thu 17 Jul, 2025 9:42 am
Elder Range in background, so as a guess, Mt Rupert?
Thu 17 Jul, 2025 9:50 am
Rupert might be visible (but probably hidden) in this photo, about halfway to the Elder Range

So Hayward might be too close and Falkland too distant. How about Kanakana?
Thu 17 Jul, 2025 4:06 pm
Not Kankana, but you have named the peak....
I did say "about"

Yes, but what is "about" referring to? Rupert or the location where the photograph was taken?
You also said "main". That's confusing me as well. Now I'm thinking you might be closer to Wilpena. E.g. St Mary.
Thu 17 Jul, 2025 5:18 pm
Let me rephrase that.
You have already given me the name of the peak I was on - just that you were ruling it out..
St Marys is in the shot - actually directly behind Kankana.
Thu 17 Jul, 2025 6:59 pm
Eggs, thanks for the clarification. Mt Falkland.

We got there - a wonderful spot to be for dawn
