ILUVSWTAS wrote:How bad is that slab SBS?? Ive heard it's up there with the 5 or 6 hardets summits to climb.....
Hardest one I've climbed, I tied a rope around myself and a huge boulder on the other side, and basically mounted the slab, got very personal with it if you know what I mean.....glad there was no-one about, wasn't exactly elegant!
Frenchy, no idea, maybe it's the trig on Wedge?
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 4:56 pm
nope not wylds but not far on the traverse line from Wylds trig. its a shame to see the old trigs not maintained, if sharp rocks out at brighton can be considered heritage so should trig points
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 4:56 pm
you got it stepbystep, meuller forming on the left and anne starting on the right
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 4:59 pm
Yeh agreed.
Speaking to someone who knows a guy who is a surveyour, and apparantly he isnt happy about them getting ripped down! Seems they still occasionally (rarely) use them.
Hmm not far from the traverse line,.... ?

?

? phew, well done Dan. Been to Wedge twice, you did it in whiteout and I still couldnt get it...
I wish i'd seen you on bonds BTW..... I must remember to take a rope when I get up there..........................

off the top of my head, need a map to check, the traverse line would go wedge - meuller-field west-wylds, with interconnecting between them. yeah i still use trig points when i can there are alot around hobart visible most of the time. I believe that even if they are not used they still should be kept there. the story of how they were made and coordinated is really interesting (for some!) a lot of hard work done by the surveyors. the beacon on Mt gell has blown down
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 5:06 pm
Again, agreed! It's like the removal of the huge cairns,
They are history!!!
Yup we were on Gell at Easter, nothing up there at all.....
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 5:09 pm
....and if I pinch your photo I will also have a view from Wedge, all I saw was WHITE.
Anyone else can post I am away from any decent pics

Sorry, are we talking about Bonds Craig, beacuse I don't recall that summit being very hard at all??

Not difficult to get to the summit block but the last 2 metres to the tippy-top is along a very exposed slab which leans to the South and East and if you fall you don't stop for some time, does require some commitment to say the least. If I didn't have a rope I would have turned away....
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 5:59 pm
I do remember that bit yes.... thanks for reminding me.
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 6:20 pm
Cathedral is very close. I'm on the southern summit of a two-headed peak.
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 6:22 pm
...and some people could argue this is really part of Cathedral so I reckon it's over to you Bap if no one else jumps in to object! It was actually a tricky little scramble to get out there, especially with the rocks all covered in ice.

Twin Spires, But Cathederal would suffice in my book!!
Lol@ Bap, blocked the slab of death out from your memory had you??
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 6:58 pm
Ummmm.. I don't remember guessing that one, I think stepbystep guessed it. I must of been to busy looking at the view, its such a great area.
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 7:25 pm
OK, here's another......

No I wasnt referring to the guess, just the Bonds remark. Maybe you are not worried on exposure and found it simple. Have you been to Fedder??
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 8:55 pm
no not as yet its on my list of walks to do this summer, I put it down to a lack of game enough walkers to go with, none of them seem like they want to do it with me
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 9:04 pm
Its on my list this summer - let me know when.
Is the photo from Mt Anne, looking south?

pazzar wrote:Is the photo from Mt Anne, looking south?
Too much detail, summit of Anne looking East, your go.....
Thu 08 Jul, 2010 9:13 pm
I wasn't convinced it was looking south, it didn't look like Lake Judd to me, and I would see a bit of Pedder looking south.
This one is really easy - I need to take some more challenging photos.

Easy huh??
Are you on Mt Dial?

Nice try ILSWT but there's no dolerite in the Dial Range. I'm no geologist but I think the Dials are made of similar conglomerate rock to Roland, Black Bluff and Valentines. Up here, the closest Dolerite gets to the coast is Cradle Mt, the Great Western Tiers or the NE peaks like Albert and Victoria, etc.
What have you got down in your nick of the woods that has a skinny spit of land like that in the top left of this pic. It almost looks like the Sorell Causeway or the Bruny Island isthmus.
I'll take a punt on it being taken from Mt Wellington with a heck of a lot of zoom looking down over the Channel to Bruny Island.
Fri 09 Jul, 2010 7:46 am
True TT. I thought it was the causeway at Sorell at first, but theres barely a hill down there let alone a mountain like this!
I think you might be right though, could definatelty be the neck at bruny, thats some serious zoooooom

thanks for the geology lesson,

Conglomorate yuk.... yuk yuk yuk yuk
Edit- Possibly from Thark Ridge on Wello?
Fri 09 Jul, 2010 8:40 am
