baw baw to Walhalla

has anyone done this hike?
is it well posted?
chances of getting lost?
so far all ive done is the prom
but there is some experienced hikers in our group
so we should be fine but a bit more information never goes unwanted
so who can help?

You should have no problem doing this hike as it is well posted, that is well posted for the AAWT.
Should be a bit of a cruise as there is a lot of downhill if going from Baw Baw to Walhalla.

You mean from Mt Baw Baw, or somewhere else on the plateau?
Either way, it's a doddle. There's always a bit of the track that's overgrown, but it's still easy to find your way. There's a very steep section once you cross the Thomson Valley Rd, on an old 4wd track, and the more level bit above the river between there and the Poverty Point bridge is a little rough in places, mainly due to erosion (it's cut into a steep hillside) but otherwise very easy walking.

You think of trying to do it all in one day, or are you overnighting? Some good campsites along that route.

The only time I've ever gotten lost on the Baw Baw Plateau is trying to find the right track out of Baw Baw village to get to the AAWT near Phillack Saddle. Tracks going everywhere and not enough signage.

i was thinking of staying at mushroom rocks first night
driving to summit in morning and hike back to main camp at mushroom rocks
and camp there again
then next morning drive back to summit to pick up second car
how does that sound?
should we wait for spring or pack thick socks and whisky?

You mean going in from the Erica carpark to set up at Mushy? Sounds like a good plan.
I don't know how much snow there is on the Plateau at the moment, but I've walked up there in the middle of winter and never had any issues. Boots and gaiters and woollen socks will keep you dry and comfy. And Walhalla's always a good place to visit.
