play on if you are confident of this one
Sat 24 Jul, 2010 9:02 pm
you're looking at Mt Anne... NE ridge maybe?
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 9:23 am
From near High Camp Hut?
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 3:40 pm
yeah i think you might be right Bap... now i've checked my pics out the angle's close but not quite right for the ridge...
Shame they "fixed" the loo and lost the view and some of the character there.... nice of them to leave the rat behind though!
Maybe shot just after lunch lookin at he sun say 1-2 pm which would fit time wise if he drove in and started walkin the day the pic was taken.... wonder how close we can get this before ILUVSWTAS gets back from his hills!!
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 7:38 pm
Alright then so maybe he's a bit further up the ridge from High camp because you can see the edge of Mt Eliza on the right. I know you do go through some gums around about there.
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 7:57 pm
Yup, It's the moon over Anne, As it was dark I didnt venture too far up, maybe 5-10 mins past the hut.
Well done guys!!
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 8:57 pm
the moon! didn't expect that... well i just thought the exposure was dodgy!

i think Bap got it... i was close-ish but no cigar
How did the peak baggin go ILUVSWTAS?
Sun 25 Jul, 2010 9:25 pm
Haha hey bite me! My camera does all the exposure stuff thingies by itself....
It went very well thanks! Check the updated signature

Whats the Blue Tier like these days? I went up there about 15 years ago and camped on the grass near Mt Poimena it was a fantastic little spot with all the mining ruins. This one should be quite easy.

It was beautiful Bap. We did comment on how nice the camping would be there. The grassy areas were amazing. A very pretty place.

Are you on the Overland Track where it sidles around Benson Peak?
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 9:23 am
I was thinking he might be on the track to Nevada Peak looking to the ridge east from Snowy North?
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 9:36 am
Intermission - didn't whynotwalk guess the Sentinel range correctly (go back over the posts).
I think he missed out on his turn???
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 9:41 am
I agree. Whynotwalk was submitting his "first instinct" as a guess back on page 199! I'm very happy for Whynotwalk to jump in and continue from here.
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 9:56 am
We all agree whynotwalk missed out - I think it was a "page turn error" - comments leaked over a page break and the poster missed the last entry before a new one came in.
But -- we still need to know where Bap took the photo???
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 10:14 am
Well eggs has the right range but more detail is needed

Hmmm, interesting at first I was sure it was from the plateau below Snowy Sth, which would make us looking Nth to Nevada Peak but it looks wrong to me???
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 10:46 am
Stepbystep has it, I went up in June and the cloud just kept on rolling in from the west.
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 2:44 pm
I mustn't have a shot from that spot, I have one looking that way, but Snowy Nth is prominent behind Nevada in my pic.....
Where's whynotwalk? It's your go!!!!!
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 2:48 pm
Yeh I just looked, seems to fit.

Hmmm ... what's the appropriate smilie for "gosh - I'd given up on expecting my turn ... ummm .... now where is that next photo?" Perhaps

or even
Anyway - thanks all you eagle eyes. Here's my go.
cheers

Hmm = no takers??
The old problem that most readers think the West Coast is too far away
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 4:45 pm
Yes Brian - it's west alright. I was thinking of giving hints like: "King Billy Pine - must be a wet place" and "but somehow it's also sparse and burned-out looking". Both of these would have said "West Coast" to many.
Okay ... it's west, but where in the west? Anyone besides Brian know this range?
cheers
Peter

As a guess I'd say the Tyndalls. Exactly where would only be a further guess though.
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 4:52 pm
Did you head out further to the ridge overlooking Rolleston?
This section looks very scrubby - but the fagus is plentiful.
Mon 26 Jul, 2010 4:56 pm
hmmm so he's on Mt Tyndall huh? Thanks Eggs
