Smitten Merino - Tasmanian made thermals

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

One of my collegues recently told me about Smitten - Merino-wool thermals that are made in Tassie.

Has anyone come across them before?

Spotted them (or a Tassie made brand) at Agfest and also I believe MD Launceston stocks them.

Cheers Brett

I recently bought a pair of Wilderness Wear 240gsm merinos... when i mentioned that i had a problem withit to the manufacturer they sent out a new replacement free! -Very happy with the product now and service too - They are marketing as the ONLY fulyl aussie owned and made and aussie materials too??... They might have to rethink that one maybe... Don't personally know Smitten - What sort of range of gear do they do?

Smitten Merino can be found at Ecohaven in Murray St in Hobart. :D, and they're really friendly, they would probably be happy to email people about other suppliers in the state for those of you up North.

I thought it was an accent.

In any case if anyone manages to contact them, point them to this topic and encourage them to answer some of the questions here.

Smitten have replied to my query about where to buy, and have also sent me a price list. I've pasted in their reply below. I'll post their brochure and price list, if they give me permission to do so (I've told them about the queries raised here and asked if I can post their price list).

Sorry but we don't have a stockist past Ross. For our outdoor thermal range you need to see it in Hobart at either Ecohaven on Murray St or Pennicott Wilderness Journeys on the waterfront in Fish Frenzy. We have the biggest range at our house / show room at Sandy Bay in Hobart.

You can always order on line and we can work out sizing over phone or via email. Our thermals are famous for there great cut and fit as well as beautiful super fine wool. It was our intention to make our thermals every bit as good as New Zealand merino thermals.

Please check out the attached Testimonial flyer, brochure and price list. Bush walk Guide book legends John and Monica Chapman wear our clothing.

I have 2 smitten merino wool items and just love them – looking forward to getting more once winter hits. No more standing on the side of hockey fields watching my son play and freezing to death. The dog may also get a few more walks this winter! They have a great web site too that ships internationally. I just sent some Smitten thermals to my sister in law in the USA who can really use them. Also love my cross over red top for going out. Highly recommend their quality product

Hi,
It is Carl Mason here from smittenmerino. I would like to thank you all for your interest in our Tasmanian made merino wool clothing. We now have stockists from Stanley to Huonville to Lake St Clair. 14 in total . Our Merino is 100% Australian with lots coming from Tasmania. It is sustainably grown and non mulsed. We design the entire range in Hobart and manufacture in Devenport. We believe in supporting local jobs and farming. We have a host of Tasmanians wearing smitten merino and growing support outside of Tasmania. Tasmanian Police Search and Rescue wear our thermals as do all students in the Polytechnic Outdoor Guides Program. Last year we supplied the clothing for Don McIntyre re-creation of Captain Bligh's 4000mile trip in an open boat across the Pacific and this April Tasmanian Eric Phillips( http://www.icetrek.com) guiding on the ice with Pat Farmer will attempt to raise 100 million for red cross when Pat will run wearing smitten merino from the North Pole to the South Pole. Check out (http://www.poletopolerun.com) Please check out our website http://www.smittenmerino.com and our blog http://www.smittenmerino.blogspot.com. Particularly check out the testimonials. We believe smitten merino is every bit as good as top New Zealand brands but cheaper and made here!!!
We stock merino clothing from 150g,170g,200, 210g and 340g and wool fleece. Range includes T-shirts. Long sleeve crews, zip neck tops, leggings, boxers. crew hoodys, wool fleece vests, wool fleece hoodys, boxers, sleeve less tops, beanies and much more.

Please feel free to email me if you want more info at carl[at]smittenmerino.com

Thanks again

I've spoilt myself and gone and got some Smitten layers, was good to meet Carl too and had a good chat.
Now I'm looking forward to trying them out on my next walk, my poly thermal layers were getting a bit tired.
